Xavi Simons

Pole position! The good times are almost peaking. Get ready for the crash. 1 or 2 even more positive bits before it all falls apart. I'm going for "poised to sign", and "deal wrapped up quickly, Simons to become new Spurs players, unless ..." - and then a little twist. "It's not over yet, Chelsea has sent intermediates" - and so on.

But hey, it's just football, eh, part of the circus.
Just waiting for Ornstein to break it that he's having his medical at Chelsea:)....

He's more Eze than the other two. I.e. a dribbler, rather than a passer.

He was a really exciting prospect. The jury is still out though as to how well he'll recover from his ankle surgery. He hasn't recaptured the same elite dribbling ability yet, though it is still early (within a year) to tell.
Not so sure on that.

Bit rude of them to put Archie Gray on there; maybe that Lo Celso fella would be worth a look.

If this really is a possibility, how do people compare him to Eze, MGW and Paqueta in terms of what he'd bring to the team and how he'd fit?
Personally think he's the most talented of the 4, also the youngest. The scope for his development is massive. He was ahead of all 4 until the injury he had, from which he's never really hit the levels he was expected to. He's regressed to a more similar level of the guys you quoted. At worst he's probably similar to them but their is the potential for him to quite exceed what any of them can do and his is significantly younger than all of them. At the start of the window if you had given me the choice he's actually the one I like the most of the quartet.

Be interesting if we actually got him, I kind of can't see it if if I'm honest though.

Would love this deal. For the player, but also because it’s an example of going head to head with another competing team and winning. Even if there’s reasons Chelsea stalled or didn’t move aggressively, to attract the player, and to show decisiveness in our own right, I’ll be really impressed.

And there is an element of being able to control our destiny with the offer we make. We have a bigger stadium, and I’m not convinced Chelsea is more prestigious even if they’ve had more recent success.

I like that we’re in the conversation here. And I’ll be delighted if we pull it off.

At this point I just feel sorry for Levy. He'll likely end up at Chelsea after "move to Tottenham 99% done"

Then the Levy hate mob will be frothing at the mouths.

I also feel sorry for my kids as they keep getting so excited at all the potential signing we're "close" to making.

I keep telling them, it's the hope that kills you

Chelsea are 100% more prestigious. 2x CL winners in the last 15 years and 4 Pre ier League wins in these player's own lifetime. Yeah it's not really debatable anymore mate.

Exceptional talent, whose career has stalled just a little in the last 18 months or so. He was known from a very early age as a real prospect, in the Barcelona academy mainly, and his breakthrough season at PSV was very good. His numbers (games, goals, assists) at Leipzig have also been pretty good, but when I have seen him play for the Dutch national team, his performances have slumped in recent years. He was a guaranteed starter in the run-up to Euro 2024, but has now been surpassed by Tijani Reijnders, and it will be difficult for him to regain his place.

He's only 22 and he's got plenty to prove still. Hard as nails, good mentality. I wonder how he will do in the more physical games. His ceiling is higher than that of MGW or Eze (or Deki or Maddison for that matter). But I'm not entirely sure he's a good fit for the Premier League, and €70m is a lot.

Edit: just to add: I would be surprised if he picked Chelsea over us. His self-esteem is pretty high, so for that reason he might see himself at Chelsea, but his career is not progressing in the way that it did, say, two years ago, and he knows he has to settle down somewhere and play. His advisers are aware of this, and for him, coming to us would be a much better deal than playing 1 out of every 3 matches at Chelsea.
Yep I saw him play as 13 year old in a youth tourney I was involved in. Even at that age you could see he was a class above his barca teammates (and everyone else, needless to say). If I recall, he played as a regista in those matches.
As you say, his upward trajectory has stalled a little of late, and maybe we are the club to jump-start that climb again.
