What Has Been The Worst Reffing/VAR Decision This Season?

I think every club has its fair share of bad decisions but they also get their fair share of lucky ones too. I genuinely can’t think of any decisions that have gone our way this season that aren’t factual ie offsides. Perhaps that’s confirmation bias but I don’t think it is

In terms of conspiracy, I can’t jump on board with that. It would need the top brass in the fa actually getting together and deciding that they’re going to fudge us over and that being relayed to various officials. If just one person broke rank and exposed the situation, it would mean the end of the prem league pretty much as a serious product

Let’s hope the bad refereeing decisions even themselves out over the next four matches

Yeah sorry, to be clear I don’t think there is conspiracy, but I do think there is some subconscious thing happening that is compounding the more back luck that we get.

I don't think there's a conspiracy, it really makes no sense. I do believe no referee wants to be seen to be part of a conspiracy to keeps us up. It's why so we are on the wrong side of pretty much any borderline decision, so when it goes to VAR they won't overturn it. Then there are decisions such as the Bentancur one at Saudi Sportswashing Machine which are down to pure incompetence. Shove in a bunch of hideous luck, injuries and lack of technical ability I think we are doing well to be above Wolves and Burnley.

Yeah I don’t think there is conspiracy, but I think there is some group think, subconscious, incompetent decision making happening.

Just seen a horrendous tackle in the Europa game Forest Villa go by without even a CARD. So it’s definitely not just us. But I still believe we’ve been on the wrong side of a crazy amount this year.

TBF there are a couple of soft calls in that video, which I would've been ok with if it wasn't for everyone else getting them given.

How that Enzo tackle is not a red is just mind blowing incompetence though. Studs first to the knee. Never near the ball. Compare that to Xavi brushing VVD's calf and the numerous slomo camera angles that justified that sending off.

And there's many others too; the Bentancour penalty and the West Ham penalty not given among the worst.

Is it a conspiracy? Probably not. But refs do absolutely nothing to prevent conspiracy theories to thrive and grow with they way they operate randomly and inconsistently. In fact, I'd say it’s all on them at this point.

Has anyone measured the impact of that video and the refereeing errors in terms of points lost due to PGMOL?

I still believe it will be significant enough to mean the difference between staying up and going down. Another true example of where poor officiating is changing the course of history. That really needs to change.

The West Ham ‘no pen’ alone is probably a six point swing. However, it’s a ‘virtual argument’ because we will never know if we would have scored or if Wham would have equalised.

Nonetheless, I personally am convinced that officials have comfortably cost us the points that would have allowed us to survive.

Losing to West Ham kicked off their run of good form too

The real problem is it’s just fans making these videos and talking about it. I don’t agree with the idea that it’s targeted against us or a conspiracy, I think it’s just rank incompetence which has disproportionately affected us this season over other teams.

However it needs to be the club saying something, staying quiet and being the ‘good guys’ will do nothing for us. There should be someone at the club who puts a video similar to the above together from an analytic point and sending it to PGMOL alongside a public statement pointing out that we’re concerned by the level of refereeing we have seen in our games this season.

Absolutely guarantee our games would start being officiated more evenly and we would get deserved penalties. Currently, these referees don’t give decisions our way and it’s fine, they never get called out on them. The difference is the other clubs near the top of the league campaign and point these things out and the media support them in doing so.

Basically everyone is against us, so we need to start actually standing up for ourselves as a club.

In such a tight position, there's so many individual things we can point to that on their own might have been enough to swing a particular game, prevent the sharp decline and change the momentum of our season,
And it's not just choosing one of the ref decisions. Even having just one of our many injured players back could have been the difference that got us a few more points this season.
Or had that thug Marinakis not strong-armed Gibbs-White into signing a new contract at Forest.

It's exactly how I think about it. I would go one step further and hire a fully qualified referee and subject matter expert on the laws of the game and have them pitch side with the ipad. I might even have them connected into SpursPlay / YouTube and providing commentary on every decision. I would also have publicly available metrics where our club measure every refereeing performance against the laws of the game. Very easily done.

This isn't just about getting refereeing performance better either. It is also about the selection process in how these elite referees are being selected in the first place by PGMOL. More importantly, it's about getting the PL back to attractive football. If referees simply upheld the letter of the law then you would see a much better brand of football. The simple choice would be to play football in the spirit of the game or end up with 8 players each week. There would be yellow and reds everywhere to start with, especially with VAR support and retrospective punishments. Professional fouls are as prevalent as the refs ignoring the laws.

PGMOL is making a rod for their own back. I'm anticipating lots of PL clubs circling and making sure Webb gets the P45.

To this point, the weird thing for me about the Bentancur pen at Saudi Sportswashing Machine is that even our players didn’t really react. Romero was talking to the ref straight after the decision was made and seemed to be having a reasonable chat, not making clear the horrendous, crazy incompetence that had just taken place.
