Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

There are some good players out there still

If he wasn't 30, Andrich would be a perfect fit and Lever would never be able to keep everyone forever, but he goes against the age range. ON the other end of scale, someone who fits the ball retriever and turnover specialist would be Zubimendi, he would be a class addition.

What about the lad at Brighton, Hinshelwood? He seems to be getting some great reviews.

That is where my head is at too. Ugarte was perhaps the realistic option that could have added something but he chose Utd. Conor Gallagher the other player, but not sure Chelsea would have ever let him join us. As an aside, I see Chelsea are now treating Josh Acheampong the same as they did Chalobah and Gallagher. He's not able to participate at the club until he signs a new deal.

I'm also really curious about Hall, Devine and Abbott. Not sure if there are others in the younger age groups as well but wondering whether we can enhance our midfield with our own youngsters within a season or two. That would be good timing as Bissouma goes into his thirties.
I wonder whether Chelsea will end up in trouble for doing this, especially doing it so openly. I would've thought a contract lawyer could have a field day with this.

Bentancur and Bissouma are not elite players :D

They are capable of putting in top performances, but not consistently and that is one of the main points to being elite - consistently operating at a high level.....

I think the position these two currently compete for is probably the first starting XI spot in line for an upgrade come the summer. Given he'll have 1 year left on his contract in the summer I'd imagine Bentancur will be the one moved on

I'm a little on the fence with this. I've always loved it when Spurs improve and the expectations on our best players go up with it. I don't think anyone is making Madds a spacegoat, more trying to get more and more out of him. Ditto with Romero, Udogie and Johnson.

The direction of travel is good right now.

My thoughts as well, he has all the skills but for whatever reasons he often drops his performance level from game to game. What concerns me he was the same at Norwich and Leicester. Difficult to understand why that is the case but its the reality.

Could be the injury or it could be that this is his level. I have a few Leicester City fans who were surprised we took the punt and at how he started. At the beginning he was like the reincarnation of Hoddle now he is like James Maddison. Could be good to have a super sub to bring on though.

I do think thats the nature of the role though, crafters and schemers like him are those that are trying to do things to open gaps and make things tick, its often IMO a low return role but you pay for when it does come off. He did have a lull last season, absolutely but seemingly follows the ankle injury trend he had at Leics too, but this season, bat maybe one game he has been great for us. I don't think he was "hooked at half time" in the traditional sense that means he was muck, like some make out

I agree about the sub in the last game being more a tactical thing then anything else, and again the injurys he has suffered through his career have not helped him at times. However he has shown in games that he really does have a lot of ability but as i have said before he also fades out of games. This is not a new thing as my son in law is a season ticket holder at Norwich and he has told me he was the same there.

I accept that was a few seasons back but i have seen him do the same at Leicester over the years, not sure why this is but he really does have history for doing that. As i have said he does have a lot of talent but for whatever reason he goes missing and for a player with his talent it is strange imo. I hate to say this but maybe its his attitude and he really believes he is better then he is.

I think he has the talent, that is why he made his name. He force other peoples perceptions of him, he can only do what he can do, and before Spurs, he made a name for himself.

It could he a case of of trying way to hard and putting to much pressure on himself. Rather than just keeping it simple and applying his skill, he tries to do to much and it just ain't working.

Don't think so, he's arrogant and believes in himself, no question, but don't think that's the problem

He isn't actually "streaky" across his career, there is a stat about it, he's typically (one season exception) an elite level output for first half of season, then fades in 2nd half to decent level.

That to me indicates it's a fitness/fatigue/injury concerns, and Ange talks about how at the start of this season "Maddison is feeling comfortable with his body/ankle" Challenge will be in a system that requires a lot of physical effort is he suited for us in a full season context?

Or the responsibility of being the creative man for a team to such an extent being too much for him as it would for almost every creative player in the world.

Impossible to know the actual cause of this. But having more creative players on the pitch and in the squad will probably help no matter what.

Or being one of the best players in their position in the world, or in your own league at the very least. Which neither of them are.

I agree, if a player of sufficient quality and fit for the system can be signed. Not looking easy right now, but may look different next summer.

What will happen with those two would then depend on what they both do over the course of this season.

Lets hope that is it, there is no doubt in my mind that the talent is there. What frustrates me about him is that he SHOULD be running games because the talent is there but as i say he seems to drop his levels quite a lot for a top player.

To run games your need to dictate the tempo
He struggles to change form fast to slow
