I really do want Spurs to love clean sheets more than they seem to currently do from the outside. My guess is that all goals get analysed and there are feedback mechanisms with our players on the inside. Surely Ange wants that stat to turn back in our favour?

I just remember reading an article in mid September that following that opening 10 games last season, Spurs had since managed only 4 clean sheets in the next 32 league games. I think we've had a couple already this season though.

I guess we look again at the half way point of the season and see if we've got 5 or 6. That would be progress.

And we haven’t conceded many worldies
Nearly all are due to basics
Good thing is so far we have dealt with set pieces massively better

Like I say, right now Onana is leading the golden gloves numbers (also because Liverpool have swapped keepers due to injuries).
City conceded a late goal in their last game and could have conceded more in that game.
Defending isn’t the same as it used to be imo

Goals conceded by teams have definitely increased over the last two seasons of you look at the final tables.

That said you need to, at bare minimum, start totalling sub 40 goals conceded if you want to be a contender.

And that’s why one freak result like last time for me has to be just that… an outlier
Or we have an issue
And then people will just quote last years fixtures again, and again…

Fully agree. Not many teams win the league conceding more than 40 goals. In our best season under Poch we conceded 26 goals in the league. Arsenal conceded a similar amount last season. We need to be conceding much less than we did last season, doesn’t matter how we do it, but doing better at set pieces would be a good foundation to build on.

We create opportunities where the final ball or run isn't good enough but give up 1v1's where the striker has time and space. Which is where the eye test comes in, if we have all the ball, huff and puff but give up 2 clear cut chances the stats will say one thing but my nervous system will say something completely different.

If only every forward in the EPL was as inept as Werner or Traore when left 1-on-1 with a goalie it’d make those chances we give up a lot less nerve racking!

Probably the same season we won the 'Top of the league for calendar year' title.

We really are rather good at winning things that don't matter, the Audi Cup is obviously one that sticks out. But the one that will live long in the memory for me is the run of winning the most sustainable club in the league title four years running :D....

And the “we got the most points from 2015/17” seasons. Again it doesn’t matter if you don’t actually win the league in either of those seasons.

Villa also concede too many, they aren't a benchmark to match. 60 goals conceded per season isn't going to get you above 4th and only gets you roughly in contention of you're also scoring loads.

I can't believe Udogie's defending against Bowen, for the Spam goal today.
The ball is dropping and Udogie doesn't even try to get goal side, he just goes wrong side and seems surprised when Bowen is through to cause chaos.
Talk about basics.

Udogie has been like that all season. Just leaves his man free all the time and doesn't defend well once the ball gets there.
