Tbh though if the "super successful every else he's been" Conte failed here then you kind of wonder who could succeed?

I think that is a fair point. We didn’t make it particularly difficult with how we defended.

But everyone says we are great going forward. For 30-35 mins, we couldn’t get out. They absolutely dominated us and could have been 3 up before they scored at all. We were relying on long passes or breakaways. So they not only exposed us defensively, which isn’t difficult, but they nullified our attack.

I was genuinely very impressed with them and I despise them more than any other club so it hurts to acknowledge it.

To be fair, I think Conte has a point, our board never spends enough to take us to the next level. We could have signed Grealish for £23m but would not pay the extra.

The problem with Conte managing Spurs is that I was bored out of my skull. Because of his dull football at the end I went to the Lane once in the final 5 months, and I have a season ticket.

How many managers have we had since Levy came in? In all that time we have won just one league cup. We cannot keep on blaming the manager

But what’s the alternative
Pep is changing things
Arteta didn’t change things in their recent failings (they just doubled down on more set pieces)
So I don’t think he should change the set up
It worked really well vs United for example and wasn’t the reason we conceded the first two goals yesterday
It was an issue when we were chasing the game but that’s not new for any side
It’s how we beat city for example

AT the very least he was showing respect to Ange in that interview which Carra was ultimately being a cnut about, but its to be expected from a no class dinlow like him

I posted this by mistake in the match thread yesterday;

Same defence.

Biss and Bergvall or Sarr to sit deeper and play balls into Kulu or Solanke to hold it up and develop the play from there.
Have Porro and Spence be a little less adventurous to allow less space for Liverpool to exploit.

You then have Sarr or Bergvall to come in after 60mins to freshen up.
You can then get 25 mins out of Werner and Johnson to use their pace and stretch the game.

You have a good chance of being level or only narrowly behind doing the above.

There is not a lot to work with - but there is something. And yes it wouldn't be doing it "his way", but right now we don't have that luxury. He needs to use what he has, not what he wants, to get points - because that's how football seasons are decided, on points, not on philosophy.

Tbf, is it really that good when you've lost more than you've won after 17 league games?
Is it really that good when over a 12 month period since christmas day last year we have played 37 games, won 16, lost 16 and drawn 5?

I read that yesterday
Look at where Biss and Sarr are for the first two goals
The issue is everyone so focussing on the latter goals when we were chasing the game. That’s when the structure gets challenged and even more players make more mistakes as the play is stretched too
Everyone was in a decent position for the first two goals but for varying reasons didn’t do enough
Some would have been happy if we lost 2 nil I know

Any system that relies on Werner to come on and to save the day concerns me greatly.

It would also help if we had a top level natural number 6

I was actually relatively happy with the first 30 mins yesterday - it showed progress.
And when we got to 2-1, even moreso.

We were playing the best team in the league with a depleted squad. The small tweak made (Biss sweeping - just like against Man U) was doing a good job in horrendous circumstances.
And actually, yes, I would have taken a 2-1 or 3-1 defeat that was underpinned by a performance and tactical set up that sought to nulify the opposition and create our own chances. That would have been a fair result, and had in it echoes of small margins away from a draw or win.

Instead.......we conceded SIX goals at home.
Some fans seem to be happy with that.!:oops:
 
It would be nice if we could actually sign another player like Solanke who is good enough to walk straight into the starting lineup.

I think it's the conditioning that's been taking place since Nuno....we've gone back to the 90s under Christain Gross and i think it's a form of familiar comfort for some...

I don’t think anyone could argue that Ange isn’t underachieving right now. Is that a reason to sack him? Not for me, not yet.

The last time we won the FA Cup, we were abysmal in the league. I remember us not winning in forever in the league before we beat Derby live on TV. Looked like we could be sucked into a relegation battle. From memory we finished 11th. But we won the cup. That was under Venables.

Ange could do the same. That’s not to say that brick league form is a necessity to win a pot. It clearly isn’t. But it might happen. And if it does, I’d be delighted with that. And we have some of the attributes to win a cup under Ange - we could genuinely blow any team away on any given day.

Guess what I’m trying to say is Ange isn’t doing a particularly great job at the moment. But he’s not doing so badly I’d sack him. Maybe this is the dark before the dawn. Maybe it isn’t. But let’s give him a good and fair crack to prove the doubters, like me, wrong.

It’d be absolutely brilliant for our club and football if he did. If he doesn’t, we waste 6 more months that’d probably be wasted if we twist again anyway.
