Vincent Janssen

I want to see Jansen starting, with Kane. If the reports are correct, that he works hard, then I see no reason why it can't work. One of the pair dropping deep, perhaps switching who does that, and the two strikers would bring more goals to the team.

2 strikers don't bring more goals.

Better functioning AMs bring more goals

The whole purpose of Janssen is to give Kane more rest. I'm pretty confident we'll virtually never see them together, particularly as both are specialist #9s.

I doubt we would play them as two out and out strikers. Kane would drop back into a number 10 type role with Janssen as the number 9.

I'll happily have a wager with you that we'll see Kane and Janssen on the pitch at the same time on several occasions this coming season.

Sluggish and off the pace apparently. But then it's pre-season and that's what most players look like this time of year.
Did you watch the game? I thought it was difficult to form any opinion of Janssen in the first half as we barely worked ourselves a single attacking opportunity. Ball and CCV were terrible, maybe it was nerves but they looked like Rabbits in the headlights, they looked ill equipped to play through Juventus' pressing game, both looking a long, LONG way from PL football. Admittedly they weren't really helped by Mason and Son though, neither of which helped to give them passing angles.

I thought that Spurs' second half was better due to Lamela and Winks coming on for Son and Mason, with both players actually wanting the ball and offering our defensive players decent passing angles, unfortunately Janssen was only on the pitch for the first 15 minutes or so of that, but in that time he did set up a decent chance for Lamela with a nice lay off.

Something I did notice about him is that he is the type of striker that looks to get in goal scoring positions - he doesn't pull back to the edge of the penalty area like Kane, he instead looks to get goal side of the defender and attack the near/far post. I would've liked to have seen Janssen on for the final 20 minutes or so of the match when we were on top as we then could've got a better idea of how he is likely to fit in to our team.

Why would you play one of the best #9s in Europe out of position? That would be like playing Lloris at LB to accommodate Vorm!

Of course over 60 odd matches it will happen occasionally, but I don't see it happening very much.

Poch is also quite orthodox in his subs in that he does straight swaps with his WFs (usually directness on for guile), then refreshes either the ACM or CM2.

No - I just read that comment in another thread.

I think pre-season is completely pointless (other than for fitness)/an unhelpful guide to anything, so pay no attention to it.

It would be absolutely nothing like your analogy.... While Kane is a fantastic number 9, he is also a very good number 10, I would say that Lloris isn't even amongst the best 25 players in the Spurs squad who could play left back, whereas Kane is probably in the best 3 or 4 at playing number 10. Kane moving to number 10 is nothing new for us, I noticed that it happened a few times for us last season with Son/NJie playing further forward than him when we were chasing a game.

Also if you watch Kane, he has a preference to pull out to the left and come back inside on his stronger right foot..... From the videos I have seen of Janssen it appears that he likes to do the same but instead seems to instead naturally pull out to the right. If chasing a game we could use that to exploit Alli making his runs through the centre with Eriksen and Lamela, our attacking right and left midfield players playing their usual game coming inside.
