Victimpool FC - Klopp leaving, grown men crying

And he is a manager who has had full control over transfers and what a balls up he has made.

I haven't checked it all for truth, but apparently Brendan Rodgers has spent £215m on players.

There were as many Benitez signings as there were Rodgers' in the starting X1 against Basel.

A more accurate question would be: Have the media finally decided to stop licking their bungholes and start asking some questions?

I've got a feeling they will be torn to shreds on Sunday. Its been coming...........and I think Sunday is the day.

i really hope so, they do have this habit of really putting it on against united though, even under Fergie it rarely went uniteds way

finally something I agree with him about, he's absolutely the right man for the job, I hope his reign is long and regretful

Hedging their bets, perhaps. I'm not sure it is the same parts of the media bigging them up and trying to tear them down. Their supporters include a number of senior journalists and I doubt these will turn. This match is ideal. Rodgers is struggling and he said something that could come back to bite him (again) so its a nice story. If Liverpool lose the press can lay into Rodgers, if United lose they can lay into LVG .... win-win.

I'm think a United loss would be the best result. The United supporters are getting annoying again and a Liverpool win can restart the hype cycle.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says he remains the best man to take the club forward.

The Reds, who trail Premier League leaders Chelsea by 15 points, went out of the Champions League after drawing 1-1 with Basel on Tuesday.

They travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

"The message for me, is clear. I don't think there would be anyone better to do the job here," Rodgers said.

The 41-year-old continued: "Seven months ago we nearly won the title. I had time to work with players and, above expectation, took them beyond where the club has been.

"This has been a difficult start with new players, less coaching time, young players, virtually starting again.

"I don't think there is anybody better equipped to deal with that having been here for the last two-and-a-half years and experienced what this club is about."

Former Liverpool captain Mark Lawrenson this week accused his old club of being "rudderless" and "going backwards just as fast as they went forwards last season".

The Reds finished third in their Champions League group behind Real Madrid and Basel, meaning they will enter the Europa League knockout stages in February.

"I am more determined than ever to succeed here. You want to be at a club with this expectancy," Rodgers said.

"The players know what is expected of them. Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world. The ability to express ourselves has not been part of us for whatever reason this season.

"The one thing we have retained is spirit, no matter the outside influences. Our focus is back on getting ready for the weekend. We will be ready."

Liverpool beat Manchester United 1-0 at Anfield and 3-0 at Old Trafford last season, on the way to finishing second in the league.

"This is always a massive game in the fixture list in this country. It's more than a football game. You're are representing a city and a set of supporters," Rodgers said.

Surely unthinkable that Liverpool could sack Rodgers after what he achieved last season. It would be hilarious after some of his comments about Spurs sacking their managers but though I despise him I do think he is a very good young manager.

its clear that Rodgers is nothing special, it was all about having a certain biting urugyan scoring bucketloads. a good manager would have bought well and made appropriate adjustments, rodgers hasn't.

His achievement was similar to AVB's record Premier League points total for us, imo -- largely down to the unbelievable form of a world class player.

However, they might look where we are after sacking AVB and decide that they might as well stick with Rodgers afterall...

He has spent like £210m and had not many successes in that figure

I wouldnt call him special granted but to suggest he isnt even a good Manager is ridiculous. He did extremely well at Swansea for example. Having an awful season but judging by this thread and some outrageous posts you would have thought that we were light years ahead - which is funny and has a certain comedic element to it.

he did do well at Swansea, but he joined a functioning team that continued in the same vein after he left, not sure we can draw any real conclusions from that either way, last season he had them winning regularly, the seasons either side though have just been typical Liverpool dross, Watford and reading have to be seen as failures

it's an important time for him, if this continues to go south and he continues to talk *******s he could easily become unemployable in future

personally I think he's a macaron

With the size of their squad last season the early cup exits and no Europe was a huge factor IMO. Look at arsenal, league cup they put out a youth team almost keep the top team fresh because CL is much more important than a 2nd rate cup.
