U23s, Academy and Loanees

I hope the is someone at the club working on loans,

Think Dorrington, Phillips, Sayers, Devine, Donnelly and Lankeshar all need proper loans, Scarlett could stay if we don't get in another atracker

Maybe it could be viewed as seeking something to be concerned about / mountains out of molehills but isn't it a bit odd we've got no promising youngsters out on loan and the season has already started?

I appreciate there's a bit of time left in the window so once it's closed that'll be the time to have more of an accurate picture but the lack of movement is odd.

I'm more thinking the likes of Parrott, Scarlett, Devine, John or the recent spate of youth signings like Lankshear or others I can't recall the name of. If we were in the conference league I'd see if as a positive because they could get chances to play but a full season of proper men's football seems more productive.

I'm hoping it's nothing to do with HG rules which I admit to not fully understanding. Guessing over the coming weeks we'll see more loans for guys we can't sell like Rodon but seems like it would have been preferable to get some prospects in to the lower leagues with time to settle / get to know teammates and coaching set up etc

I do understand that if we lose the biggest talents results like the one above are less likely, obviously the whole idea is to do what's best for the player's development but it seems there's less focus on loans currently.

I agree totally with our young players getting loan experience against seasoned players but it important getting the right club where they will get game time and develop their skills, no point in sending Devine or John to a long ball team, they will learn nothing. Our manager and coaching team needed to look at the youngsters and assess their needs before making a decision on who should go and where to, we might see some movement before window closes.

Absolutely fair points, don't want to rush them in to the wrong club but the manager / playing style can be changed in the drop of a hat given a sacking.

I guess it's a balance of wanting them here for pre-season to be assessed by our coaching staff but by doing so they'll be rocking up to a team that have gone through their pre season together, making the youngster possibly seem like even more of an outsider to the group...

Watch the game and was surprised that City side looked so poor, typical Pep side over passing, they only had two players who caught the eye, a winger and a big strong holding midfield player. Our defence looked solid but had little pressure on them, midfield and attack pressed hard and created problems for their defence the whole game. Lyons-Foster was captain and played in front of defence, I think that a good move for him, he's never really impressed me at centreback, he'll probably play there for us until he is released as I cant see him making it here. Donley always looks good, very clever footballer.

I haven't checked but I saw someone in the Twitter comments mention that quite a few of City's academy players were poached/ sold off recently, so they are not quite as stacked for talent as usual. Not sure if true though.

Certainly looked it, but I suppose they'll buy (discover) a lot more, boy in my grandsons' team sign for them 3 years ago and luckily his dad managed to get a job up there and a home for family, kids 15 now so I'll be looking out for him in their academy teams.

He's done well to last 3 years! Must be half decent. I suppose the chance to make it at City would be tiny but if he hangs around long enough I'm sure he'll get a move to Southampton ;)
