U23s, Academy and Loanees

What a stark contrast to last season!

How many teenage players is it this season, in the PL? Gray, Bergwall, Moore, Odobert? And Tel soon. Speaks volumes that thre teenagers last season played a combined 7 (!) minutes, while those four have had 2900 minutes so far this season.

Is it just premier league?

If not Ajayi and Olusesi

I disagreed last season as well during the mid-season injury crisis. How many games did Donley sit on that bench for whilst we made 2 or 3 subs and left him getting splinters? He was in amazing form for our U21s and country (U19s). Everything he touched was a goal or assist, yet the manager still wouldn't bring him on even for 5-10 mins. By the time it happened, we were getting the players back.

Donley is 3 of those last season mins.

Looks like it’s total for all comps, prior to Thursday.

Minutes in EPL (all comps) [last season]

Gray: 997 (2247) [4268]
Bergvall: 598 (1282) [1504]
Moore: 181 (739) [3]
Odobert: 162 (272) [2285]
Scarlett 11 (35) [218]

Obviously they didn't think he was ready, this season it has taken him some time to establish himself in the Orient team, his first 10 games he was either a sub or was subbed. Gray and Bergvall had the chance to adapt to mens football at a lower level than PL which appears to have helped them and I think Donley will benefit from it as well. At times too much is expected from our fans after they have read a youngster is doing well at youth level and I assume Williams-Barnett will fall into this bracket.

Yeah, I do understand all of that. I don't buy into it as a legitimate reason though.

It sort of looked like Olusesi wasn't as ready as Ajayi, but both lads did a great job of covering off time on the pitch in the middle of an injury crisis. We see Mikey get knocked off the ball all the time as a boy playing against men. These lads have helped the seniors who are in the red zone in the 80th minute of a match. They've even delivered technical attributes that can't be attained by the senior pro they've just replaced.

I totally get that any manager wants their academy players to come into a perfect setup, start off from the bench with a win and get the adulation of the fans. Life doesn't work that way.

The midfield role is far more demanding than wide forward and one moment can make you look a star when you score as a forward and done little in the game. Donley was the boy pulling the strings and setting tempo in youth teams like Foden did at that level but hasn't got his pace. Despite his success I don't think Foden has reach the level he should have due to being played out of position and I don't want to see Donley as just a body in the midfield.

I think that fell into my thinking. The typical U21 setup was something like

Craig, Abbott
S-Bell, Donley, Santiago
Lankshear

Nile John was also in there depending on whether Craig was at the club or on loan.

Now you can also call that an Ange 4-3-3 with Donley in the Madds role as that is what Wayne Burnett was coaching them.

Donley was the U21 talisman and would have been raw but also confident to give something to the setup. He wasn't offered the chance even for that 10 min cameo until later (cup game?).

Anyway, water under the bridge. Can wait to see these young loanees back with the 1st team for pre-season.

Would have loved to have seen the reaction when it went in, but nice to see them keeping up to date with other academy players

Unfortunately Dorrington is on the bench for Aberdeen again today
Think I would have told the lad at the front to lower his fcuking arms because the are people behind who want to watch.

Bit I'm forever telling people in the theatre to shut the fcuk up.

Why do women think we've paid good money to see and hear them dancing and singing in the aisles at shows rather than the performance?
I don't go to musicals.

Was at the theatre this week at the Royal court. We obviously go to very different events. Both maybe hosted in theatres but I don't go to "shows" I go to plays.

If women are dancing and singing in the aisles at plays, that is bang out of order. They should be ejected, or made to sell popcorn.
