U23s, Academy and Loanees

Took him a while to get back into the team after an injury, but between Phillips and Vuskovic, we have 2 decent defenders who could be part of the squad next season.
I would sell Ragusin, bring an older experienced guy like Naybet and then have Phillips in the squad. Loan Vuskovic to the championship for a season. Would loan him and Veliz to QPR for the year so they get used to London.

Phillips played the whole game again.
I've not watched him, not sure how he is getting on.
But he's getting a lot of game time.

See that Stoke conceded 24 shots today, so at least Phillips should feel right at home at Spurs. That teenage winger who won the game for Sunderland looks like a great prospect.

I have a feeling that Phillips will be more PL ready than Vuskovic. He's 2 years older and I believe the Championship is a slightly better platform to step into our first team squad in the PL versus Belgium's top division. Phillips has also completed 2 years at the club and will still be an U21. That means he can be named in any UEFA squad B-list. Perhaps Vuskovic catches Phillips up within a year though.

I think we will stick with Dragusin. The 2 obvious alternatives would be Guehi and Branthwaite if we were to make that sacrifice.

If we sign a central defender I would like them to be 27+ with at least 100 games in a team in the top leagues either here or around Europe. Need someone with experience and we have plenty of young players.

What is interesting is that you consciously or subconsciously used Naybet as the player comparison above. Got me thinking that we haven't successfully signed a player of that type since 2004. The other couple of names that spring to mind were Woodgate who was always crocked and Gallas who was in the final throes of his fantastic career. Even Gallas succumbed to injuries in the end. I wouldn't call either a resounding success. Toby was but was 26 when he joined. He still had 5 years ahead of him. He only kept his shirt in his last 2 season as we just hadn't found replacements for that great partnership. Toby was pretty poor for a lot of the time under Jose.

Therein lies the problem. You see world cup winners like Varane come and fail in the PL. Silva sort of did OK at Chelsea but he was found wanting in so many situations, and that type wouldn't suit Ange-ball. So if I follow your logic, who would be the logical names of players that would suit Spurs. I can't really think of any unless City let us have Stones or Pool release Gomez. I wouldn't touch Maguire, although respect his leadership qualities.

I'm still in the camp that we should go and get ourselves a younger guy like Branthwaite and forget these older signings. Keep building for the long term and trust the current model of buying under 25's.

Spurs take it 3-2 - quite a game in spite of wind & rain aplenty.

Game management was great after we got last goal around 80m. From 87:30 to 89:00 (a shot straight at keeper) we passed 30+ times along with other touches when running with the ball - most of which was well in their half.

They'll be welcoming a warm shower or whatever methinks.

I thought Silva was excellent at Chelsea.

I thought Silva was excellent at Chelsea.

I thought he did excellent things, but he was never excellent over 90 mins. He became a player that looked great on the highlights reel but also one that opposition managers would target. He always had a favourable narrative with the press who weren't always objective. They didn't study the detail as it didn't suit the narrative.

Every time I watched Chelsea (either against at their stadium or ours, or watching full games on Sky/BT) I thought he was very good. Very calm defender with good physical attributes and superb positional sense

I always liked the look of this lad in the U21s. He was the heartbeat of the team and could touch the ball in centre mid up to 100 times. After dragging Donny Rovers from relegation places into the playoffs I thought Ange might have a proper look at him in pre-season. He didn't even take him on tour. I guess he'll always be that player that pulled the first team shirt on once in the Leeds end of season game. Ironically, that was at left back.
