Transfer Tittle-Tattle

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Tottenham's offer for Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo is financially better than Juventus's, but he prefers a move to Turin.

Zaniolo, 20, joined Roma from Inter Milan last summer as part of the deal which took Radja Nainggolan to the San Siro, and the playmaker has starred ever since.

The youngster hit six goals and two assists in his first season with Roma, and his performances have unsurprisingly sparked major interest in his signature.

It's now believed that Tottenham's offer to Zaniolo is 'economically' better than that of Juventus, but he's actually more interested in a move to Juventus.

Staying in Italy – especially at such a young age – may be preferable to the playmaker, and a move abroad would be risky given that he has a very real chance of playing at Euro 2020 with Italy next summer.

Either way, Zaniolo isn't interested in renewing his contract with Roma, and as things stand, it leaves Tottenham in a straight fight with Juventus for his signature.

As a versatile player with height as well as technique, Zaniolo would fit in perfectly with Mauricio Pochettino, as he could fit into a 4-2-3-1 or a midfield diamond, two systems Pochettino played last season.

The Guardian claim that Spurs have explored a part-exchange deal for Zaniolo involving Toby Alderweireld, which may well give them an advantage over Juventus, but Zaniolo may well prefer playing for Maurizio Sarri's Juve over more money in England.

While I can completely understand a young Italian preferrign Juve over an English team, I do wonder how any player goes to Juve expecting to play at the minute, they are trying their own version of galacticos arent they?

Tottenham signing 75% there, €23m + player – Just need to convince him to join
By Tom Coast -

8th July 2019

If Corriere dello Sport are to be believed on Monday morning, then Tottenham are extremely close to signing Nicolo Zaniolo from Roma.

In need of a centre-back, the Italian side have been looking at a number of players around Europe, among which has been Toby Alderweireld.

We already relayed claims of Spurs offering a sum of money + the Belgian defender to try and acquire the young Italy international, but nothing had been accepted.

Until now, that is, as Corriere explain Tottenham came back with an improved bid, one of €23m + Alderweireld, to which Roma gave their OK.

The centre-back, helped by an English lawyer and the same agent as Zaniolo, has also agreed to the move, meaning three out of four parties (or 75%) are in agreement, with just one step to overcome: convincing the 20-year-old.

For now, the attacking midfielder is the one holding a transfer up, aware of Juventus’ interest (his favoured destination), but the Serie A champions have ‘no intention’ in paying €45m for the player.

Having lost Kostas Manolas to Napoli, Roma would be able to guarantee Alderweireld first-team football, as the competition is a little bit less fierce than in London, where the 30-year-old has to compete with Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez week in week out.

Perhaps that’s why he’s prepared to sacrifice Champions League football for guaranteed time on the pitch.

Either way, until Zaniolo says yes, this won’t go through, so it’s up to Daniel Levy and co. to convince him.

Franco Baldini strikes again: Club ‘have requested’ Tottenham midfielder – Alternative for main target
By Tom Coast -

8th July 2019

Needing some extra manpower in midfield this summer, Roma have been looking all over the place to try and satisfy new manager Paulo Fonseca.

Manchester United’s Fred (who played under him at Shakhtar) was the early mention, but that disappeared rather quickly, as names like Jordan Veretout’s started gaining more prominence.

However, a new one has been added to the list if Leggo are to be believed, as Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko is being targeted.

The AS Roma-Spurs link is held by Franco Baldini, and the Italian newspaper explain the France international ‘has been requested’ by the Serie A side.

Sissoko is seen as an ‘alternative’ to Veretout, even if the Fiorentina midfielder remains ‘in pole’ for the time being.

The arrival of Tanguy Ndombele has certainly put one or two questions marks over Sissoko’s position in the pecking order ahead of next season, even if the two could easily cohabit under Mauricio Pochettino with another long season expected for Tottenham.

No fee or estimated value is mentioned, but after a relatively successful campaign for the 29-year-old, Spurs could easily request €30m or so for the former Saudi Sportswashing Machine player.

I see some of the players are back in - Janssen/Nkoudou amongst them.

I thought Janssen was close to the door a few weeks ago!!!
