Depends how the team is set up, but he could well become more an attacking player, for example - like he did for England.

Sitting out wide, picking passes, putting in crosses - in a slower paced more tactical league, I can see it suiting him.

Those are some really, really big numbers for a kid.

I take your later point about other players working him out and if he can adjust his game to suit.

For me, the real question is whether he can stop passing to the opposition with better players around him. If he can, that starts to become a Messi-shaped radar, rather than just a very promising one.

They are pretty amazing stats. Do the statsbomb wheels always have the same values on each of the axis? What happens if a player has (for instance) 5 pAdj tackles?

I assume 'turnovers' is a bad thing? i.e. how many times he turns over the ball to the opposition? I also assume that this means being dispossessed himself and dosen't include the 26% of passes that fail to find a team mate?

The scale is set so that the outer ring is the top 5% of players across Europe's top leagues. A player at or near the edge can be considered elite at that part of their game.

That's right - turnovers are a measure of losses down to miscontrols or lost in dribbles. For me, if his passing is poor because of his teammates, then turnovers will follow. Fixing one by joining a better team will almost certainly fix the other.

If he's just a brick passer who takes too many risks on the ball then we probably can't fix that.

This makes sense now. Glad someone asked, id never really studied these things as I guess I didn’t know the context and never got around to asking!

Now I know that the outer ring is Moussa Sissoko, it’s easy to compare at a glance and see how massively inferior every other player on this planet is.

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has warned Jack Grealish will not be sold on the cheap this summer.

"He’s signed a brand-new contract at the start of the season, committing himself to the football club," said Smith ahead of Villa's Championship play-off final against Derby on Monday.

This is why it is important that we do go out and buy some young English talent from teams operating under financial constraints. English players who are anything like proven now cost huge fees. It is becoming increasingly important that the club have a punt on two 10 to 15 million quid type youngsters each season. You only really need one every two years to come good for that to have paid off handsomely and even those that don't quite make it to the very top can at least provide some reasonable home grown squad cover. Bournemouth have bought two good such players over the last couple of years in Brooks and Lloyd Kelly. Two players that I'm surprised we didn't have an interest in.

Think the Grealish deal will depend on Villa coming up or not.

I reckon there's a clause in his new contract that lets him leave for X amount if they don't make it .

I think the problem with it (and I do agree with you) is also having the space for those players to play and develop, and thats the bit where we need to evolve more.

In recent seasons the issue has probably been as much about having too much deadwood that we dont have space, but we also need to make opportunities in the team as well.

If we got Maguire from Sheffield Utd, or maybe even Hull, theres every chance he wouldnt be the same player today...
 
Liverpool join Tottenham, Arsenal in chase for £33m winger

Liverpool have reportedly joined fellow Premier League sides Tottenham and Arsenal in the race to sign AC Milan winger Suso.

The Spain international quit Anfield for the San Siro on a free transfer in 2015 and has gone on to enjoy a successful four-year period with the Italian giants.

However, with Suso’s current release clause standing at £33m, it has left the door open to the possibility of a return to England during the summer transfer window.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Reds are contemplating whether to hand Suso a second spell on Merseyside – where the 25-year-old managed just 21 appearances in all competitions between July 2010 and January 2015.

Tottenham and Arsenal are also said to be monitoring the player’s situation, with Milan ready to listen to offers after the attacker notched just one goal and a single assist since November.

The north London duo are both looking to strengthen their playmaking options this summer, with Spurs seeming increasingly likely to lose Christian Eriksen, while the Gunners are looking to replace Juventus bound Aaron Ramsey.
