Clarke most likely was, theres a lot of hype for him and with good reason.

Kemar Roofe catches the eye too, though I checked and at 26 is older than I thought.
 
PALACE WANT £70M FOR WAN BISSAKA

Crystal Palace have slapped a £70m price tag on coveted right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to the Independent.

The 21-year-old defender has attracted suitors from across Europe after his impressive breakthrough season at Selhurst Park.

Palace have no intention of sell one of their prized assets, though, and have put a hefty price on his head to ward off interest from the likes of Manchester United.




Kieran Trippier is set to find himself at the centre of a tug-of-war between Atletico Madrid and Napoli.

Both clubs are interested in the England right-back for whom Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is willing to listen to offers this summer.

Trippier, 28, is set to start next month’s Champions League final in Madrid where Spurs will face Liverpool .

His future will be resolved after that match.

The interest of Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti is well documented but Atletico Madrid are now keen with 34-year-old Spanish full-back Juanfran set to leave the club.

Trippier helped England to the semi-finals of the World Cup last year and has been a regular for Spurs for the past 18 months.

But Pochettino is set to reshape his squad this summer and would sanction his departure if a suitable offer came in.




Atletico Madrid have entered the race for Ajax winger David Neres, according to Sport.

The youngster is attracting plenty of interest with Arsenal linked.

But he’s now wanted by Diego Simeone as they look to rebuild with Antoine Griezmann departing.
 
According to the Glasgow Evening Times, Rangers are looking to snap up Tottenham Hotspur teenager Albert Rachi this summer.

The Gers have already landed Steven Davis, Jake Hastie and Jordan Jones for next season, but Steven Gerrard will continue his recruitment drive in the coming weeks.

Rangers will also take a look to the future, and with Sporting Lisbon's Umaro Balde believed to be on the way in, another youngster is wanted.

The Glasgow Evening Times claim that Albanian youngster Rachi, currently with Tottenham Hotspur, is another player wanted for next season.

Rachi, who turns 16 in July, only joined Spurs last term, joining their Under-16 side last summer having progressed in the Eurostar academy.

The midfielder is described as 'smooth and fast' by Eurostar, who praise his 'extreme speed' and believe he plays beyond his years.

That's encouraging for Rangers, and they'll hope that the lure of a move to Ibrox can tempt Rachi into leaving Tottenham after just a year in North Londo

I don't think AWB is worth even half of that amount. If a club signs him this summer then I think they could end up wasting a lot of money.
Do either Napoli or Atletico have any players they are prepared to lose that we are interested in? I would be happy if Neres goes somewhere that isn't Arsenal and even more happy if it is somewhere that isn't in England.

Wan Bissaka isnt a £70m player now (and honestly I think its a bit like the £100m Zaha price, opening position...) but he could well be in a year or two.

His defensive work is literally among the best in Europe, what price one of the best FBs?

This falls into a bit of a wider point though, we have seen a few times in recent years a promising youngster and a "should we/shouldnt we?" kind of angle, they move somewhere else, play well, and suddenly arent even in our market.

We (and others) may well need to gamble more just to stay in the game...


That being said, we are also being linked to Semedo how would appear to offer much better value for money!

I get a club paying a massive fee for Zaha. I don't think we should do so but I get why he is worth big money as he is a game changing sort of player that has a skillset that is hard to find. AWB did indeed defend well this season, having very good defensive numbers. However he burst on the scene quite quickly and the opposition haven't yet really had much of a chance to find and exploit any weaknesses.

Next season will be telling for Wan Bissaka. There have been numerous young players over the years that have burst onto the scene, have a purple patch and then never hit those same heights again. At £70 million (or even £50 million) I think Wan Bissaka is already outside of our market for a fullback. I honestly think that Max Aarons is the better player anyway.

I agree that Semedo would also seem to be far better value, I thought it was noticeable that Barcelona seemed to nullify Mane's after he came on in their game against Liverpool.

If paying big money for a young player with just a single season (or less) of game time to judge against you have to be quite certain that the player has all of the attributes you are looking for. In AWB's case I see power, pace, tenacity, confidence and bravery. What I didn't necessarily notice was skill, good control, quality on the ball, movement off the ball and an eye for a pass. I'm not saying he doesn't have those things, just that in my casual observing when not really paying attention they didn't stand out.

Semedo made a massive difference IMO, should have started.

And I agree with you on Aarons, another offering better value.

But...

We paid £40m for a rookie CB who had one seasons of first team football in Holland.

How does that compare to a rookie FB who gave some of the best defensive work in Europe (not just PL) and looks set to improve? (AND is homegrown!)

£50m+ isnt that crazy, IMHO, in this market. Even if it is barking fudging mad in reality.

Palace say they want £70m, as I said theres every chance thats an opening position and they dont actually expect to reach it.

If Wan-Bissaka improves next season then he will most likely be out of reach to us next summer. Or he may not improve. And this is exactly the sort of gambling I was talking about.

Serie A is perfect for him. La Liga he'd be up against technically competent wide men on a weekly basis and get toasted.

Those are some really, really big numbers for a kid.

I take your later point about other players working him out and if he can adjust his game to suit.

For me, the real question is whether he can stop passing to the opposition with better players around him. If he can, that starts to become a Messi-shaped radar, rather than just a very promising one.
