A few points Sarr is not actually an AM he's B2B ie. an 8 who can do a bit of everything and to a good standard. He's not a 10 comparable to our peers and likely never will be but he doesn't need to be because that's not going to be his role in the long term and if it is he's going to disappoint annoyingly.

Eze was being looked at for the central position the role Sarr is currently helping our cover (him and Bergvall both spent time in that space against Burnley so it's even debatable if Sarr is someone who would lose out). We do need a leftt if Odobert or Tel are not going to be started and it doesn't seem like they are rated at that level currently by Frank and we needed an AM anyway, our options there are ok not exceptional and we should always be looking to improve on areas where we can.

Like MGW for example?

Sarr probably has more goals in him than MGW imo.

If you swapped out Sarr we would lose all that energy and defensive work which Frank and sensible people value.

Long story short, LW seems the key area to address. Sarr, Madison, Kulu, Bergvall all able to play at no. 10. Kudus too, but he'll play on the right.

I'm not gonna lie I was never super intrigued by MGW. He felt like an attempt at a HG attacker but not necessarily a high finesse one but given his age and the desire from Frank I was happy enough to go with it. The balance between Sarr and MGW is quite different imo.

Lack of the short passing game, neat possession under pressure, a shift or swivel to beat a man in a tight space, volume thread of the needle passes etc. Sarr can do all of those things but none is an exceptional trait which is what a club like Spurs attempting to eventually challenge for the league and CL requires. We need someone whose primary instinct is going for the killer passes every single time and if it's not on they either take their man on or they have the controller instinct and move the ball around building pressure until the space opens for that killer pass. This isn't Sarr.

Sarr doesn't have to be dropped, he's an 8 and can play there. Rotate with Bentancur and probably own the position in the medium to long term. Besides industry is good to a point, you do eventually need some craft, some flair, some invention. Sarr can do it to some extent but again that's not his strength and football is all about maximising strengths.

Can play and should play are not the same thing. There are levels to this and Sarr whilst a fantastic player, (I'm a massive fan) is not a world class AM and probably never will be as it's not his skill set.

Maddison even before the injury is someone I felt we should be looking to improve upon, Bergvall is a kid and frankly not good enough yet to play AM and is also very likely a creative 8 in the long run.

We need LW if Odobert is not going to get the starts and a 10 imo.

Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their efforts to buy an attacking midfielder after being beaten to the signing of Eberechi Eze by Arsenal.

Their shortlist includes Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche and Como’s Nico Paz. Emirates Marketing Project’s Savinho also remains a target with a move for the winger thought to be in addition to a No10. Tottenham have been put off by City’s £67million valuation of Savinho, although talks are likely to accelerate after the teams meet at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Como do not want to sell Paz, 20, who contributed six goals and eight assists in 35 Serie A appearances last season. He was ranked fourth in the league for key passes, playing under the former Spain midfielder Cesc Fàbregas. Paz has played three times for Argentina, having made his debut in October.

His former club, Real Madrid, who sold him for €6million (about £5.2million) last summer, have numerous buy-back clauses and the right to match any bids for Paz. Real decided against activating an €8million option this summer but could choose to re-sign him for €9million next summer or €10million the following year. If Como were to sell him elsewhere this summer, they would need to pay 50 per cent of the sell-on fee to Real.

It's the right plan. Confidence in the likely execution isn't high
 
We absoloutely should have a list of alternatives otherwise you need to question what the scouting department are doing - the priority looks like it was to go Prem proven hence MGW & Eze, just got to hope after missing out on those that the next in line are ready to make an impact on the first team straight away.

I wouldn't say its that important when many of our other signings (Kudus, Palhinha, Danso) have had plenty of time here. Tel has also had 6 months, while Vuskovic looks physically ready for this league; only Takai will probably need settling in time.

If we go Savinho (with league experience), plus Paz or Akliouche (without it), I think that balance is still very healthy.

Sarr isn't a million miles away, and is probably more of a goal threat. Maybe Sarr can't swivel and beat a man quite so well. But he is also a couple of years younger. The temptation is to look at shiney purchases, rather than invest in our own. And Sarr is proving to be pretty decent. He undoubtly needs backup and rotation. But I'd personally prefer someone backing him up, rather than him being the back up, as he will come on leaps and bounds. 23 and he's ready to explode onto the scene and make a name for himself imo.

All this brick with Eze and Savinho and who else knows, just makes the Kudus signing seem so much more wholesome. In early, clearly wanted us, is a baller, and we had Spam’s pants down. Love it. And yes I’m a big Kudus fanboy. It’s remembering all this that’s taking the bitterness of the latest news away for me
 
Either of those guys for #10 and Savinho and I’d be happier than if we had Eze.

Our team (and backup) would be kind of ridiculous :)
