Tottenham vs Scum COC OMT

Which i think is valid in the QF or SF, perhaps not in the 1st round. Not being difficult but which games would you have rested players in?

Qarabag = We hadnt won a game yet in the season
Stoke = We hadnt won a game in the league and would have dropped into bottom 3 had we not have won
Palace = Where is took everything we had to win and going in i didnt think we would
Ar5ena1 = Carling Cup 1st round where they were also resting players
Man C = Top of the league team where we need a performance at top of our game to get near them
You have worded those really to backup your point. You could just have easily come up with soundbites like Quarabag are nobodies and should be easy to beat, or Arsenal are our biggest rivals we need beat them for momentum and morale.

I don't think you would find anyone on here that would argue against a bit of rotation/form/whatever. I would just question the timing of it in this instance. In my mind that match was the biggest match this season so far and we didn't go in as strong as we could have. A win would have been a tonic for the players and fans.

And that money/CL qualification attracts better players, which makes us more likely to win stuff.
We've managed it once, it's not all that likely. In the absence of that, a Wembley final like last year is probably reasonably attractive in its own right.

The league cup is a short format that we've done reasonably in recently and offers a chance of a bit of glory. I think Poch was right to change a few, but probably changed too many, particularly at the back.

Disagree id say only one maybe weighted is the Palace one the others are statements of fact.
If we had lost v Qarabag and Stoke then we the discussion pre-palace would have been completely different

Fair enough, i do think though without knowing the physical stats pre last nights game its difficult to judge.
If theoretically we won at the weekend would it change your view on last night?

Not at all, I happen to think we will not make the top four regardless of what we do on Saturday. But we could have won the League cup.

Understand your view, however i just think if we for example sat 13th in Jan but were in the QF of the League cup and had got through EL qualification. People would not be saying this is great.

Understand that wasnt the case last year but we literally walked through the Carling cup playing weakened teams against other weakened teams

Well Stop! Hammer time but for me I want to see us win a trophy and finishing among the losers ( top four) is not what I want to see us struggle to do yet again.

I'm sure. And I'm not about refute the veracity of the statment just that I could have come up with equally valid and true statements arguing against for some of those matches.
Anyway that is not my point at all. My one and only point is that we should have not fielded a weaken team against Arsenal as we missed a good chance to turn them over. Simple really.

So do you think that making money is more important then trying to win something?

I am not the biggest fan of modern football but accept the parameters that football managers have to work within now. I suspect that finishing as high up the league as possible is more important to the board than winning the league cup and that is where the manager will take his prioritisation from.

I also find it a little strange how short people's memories are. There were plenty of people on here in the summer saying that Fazio was good enough to be a first choice CB this season. Over the last few weeks the calls for Trippier and Rose to start have been getting louder. Eriksen, Chadli and Kane all started and played well. We are short of options in central midfield, Dier played well and Carroll did OK. Alli could have been selected but maybe Poch decided that he wasn't ready for it or needed a rest.

I find the lack of a willingness by some posters to understand why Poch might have made some of the decisions he made baffling. To think that the only way to run a football club or manage a football team is how you see fit seems bizarre to me. I get it that people are fudged off at losing to Arsenal and getting dumped out of the weakest cup but I think that the reaction by some is completely over the top.

And i agree in many ways, id like to see us really go for EL over all others as achieves 3 aims in one.
However thats a risky strategy due to nature of cup competitions and that it could leave us watching more than usual amounts of lost games.

Well as a supporter who pays out a lot of money traveling up and down the country to see my team I want to see us win things ( every now and then), I have already said elsewhere I am not going to slag of any of the players who played last night but we put out a side with at least 6 reserves in a cup we have a better chance of winning then we do of finishing in the top four ( imo).

Again I will say ( as I have elsewhere) I do not give a brick who we played so its nothing to do with it being the Arse either, we have two other chances of winning something this season and I would hope that we/Poch ( and I am a supporter of what he is doing generally) put out a stronger side in those games.

Failing that we will chase the top four and I can not see us getting that this season to be honest, and when/if we fail we may lose some of the players we are trying to build a side around.

I think we are not far apart in what we hope for but we stand a lot more chance of losing any hope of winning a trophy if we persist in fielding weaken sides in the cups.

I am not sure that is true and particularly not at this stage of the competition. We would be strong favourites to finish in the top six this season and we only need small mistakes from other teams to potentially finish higher. Cups (particularly over one leg) are far less easy to predict because they are so much more open to individual mistakes costing you your place in the competition. As we saw last night.

Well we will have to agree to disagree with you first point, but you are right about mistakes helping us lose last nights game though, however it usually a mistake by a player that leads to most goals in any game so if we had played our best CB maybe we would not have made that mistake.

I do agree with your earlier comment though about some comments by some being over the top, but lets be honest that happens all the time anyway. :)

I can't dance as thats a fact, however i would always rotate in the early stages of the cups, on the basis that 8/10 times it would get us through.
Last night ignoring it was them, was the 2/10 where we should/should have won but didn't but thats the dangers of the cup.
If we had gone full strength could have been 0-0 and they brought sanchez etc on earlier and we lost anyway

Against the weaker sides that would have not been a problem ( it worked for us last year) but Arse are one of the top four sides and we should have taken that into account ( just like I would hope against the other top sides we could have faced).

I am going to try and not sound like a condescending clam here, so please tell me if I fail. Football is a game of small margins and in a one off game the weaker team wins in a reasonably frequently. Over the course of a league season you will expect the better teams to finish higher because these individual games have less impact. In a cup one of these games and you are out.

And you would certainly not expect that King of Turds Flamini to score two in once game, especially one that requires a high degree of footballing skill.

I can sadly see that some people are not prepared to see this season as top 6 and allow this squad to bed in. The only player we are likely to lose IMO is Lloris, and given Vorm's showing last night, it will be clear to our chairman that we have to fudging well buy a top class replacement and not dingdong about.

Still find it annoying that Pochettino rested so many players against Arsenal. Would have preferred us to play our best 11 against Arsenal and rest players against ManCity instead. Frankly, just can't see us beating ManCity even with our best 11. They are in great form this season despite losing to West Ham last week.

I think it is a real disgrace for us to disregard any Cup despite only winning 2 trophies in 16 years.
