Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

Re: Northumberland Development Project

How beautiful does our stadium look right now

Ahhh it's one of those "trip on LSD legally" pictures!

Re: Northumberland Development Project

Barring a 'general' type thread, i guess this is the place for this.

Emirates Marketing Project plan to expand their Etihad Stadium

Emirates Marketing Project have announced plans to expand the capacity of the Etihad Stadium from 47,000 to as much as 60,000.

Two options are being considered by the club before a planning application is submitted in December.

One would see the capacity increased to 54,000, and the other to 60,000.

Likely they would be sorted before us. The amount of money they have tends to make things go smoothly.

Re: Northumberland Development Project

Any plans for expanding their fan base so they can fill their stadium?

Re: Northumberland Development Project

they will fly in fans from abroad. cheap sponsor tickets etc. they might fill the stadium, but it will be as soulless as hell.

Re: Northumberland Development Project

Surely - given the inevitable saturation hype on Sky and the media these days - ANY big-city top-three Premiership club will have few problems filling a 60K stadium with gullible glory-hunters?

Re: Northumberland Development Project

They won't have problems filling it. The question is, will it become any less soulless than the Emirates?

They used to be a great club, with some of the best fans in England. Their current set of fans seem to think that that's in some way 'belittling' (feeding the 'plucky City' image, apparently) but honestly, if that City had been successful, it would have been impossible to begrudge them their success. Now their players have no obligation to anyone other than the Sheikh (because he pays them), the Sheikh doesn't have to answer to anyone because they're all in love with him, and the newly entitled, sneering fans that remain are there to serve as window dressing: make a bit of noise, and make it look like we're a 'club' and not a billionaire's plaything.

That kind of disconnected situation will not help with the atmosphere around the new Eastlands, development plans be damned.

Btw, this thread is apparently being closely monitored by the denizens of Bluemoon, who think we're bitter ****s. So, hello lads. :)

Hahaha, the Tottenham Thread on Bluemoon attracts the worst of City fans. I think I could safely guess that more than 50% of the posts on there are hateful posts aimed at your club, your fans, Ricky Villa and THFC6061. The moderators there stopped him posting links to his website, I'm amazed he still goes on Bluemoon.

As for the stadium situation, and in particular the atmosphere: at the moment, its brick. Before the Sheikh, it was brick. Before the move to Eastlands, it was great. A whole host of excuses have been thrown up as to why this is. Apparently the acoustics of the stadium are poor, the placement of the away fans splits up the singing sections, the lack of standing makes it difficult to 'get going', the fact there isn't a Kippax is still rather alien to a lot of us... the list goes on. I don't think we could fill 60k, even with cheaper tickets. We have an ageing fanbase and even though season tickets sell out ridiculously quickly, we are still a club which relies heavily on our core fanbase. Expanding the stadium will do nothing to help the atmosphere. You can cram as many people into a stadium as you want; but this doesn't guarantee noise. Point of reference: Old Trafford.

Re: atmosphere - empty seats certainly doesn't help.

Thanks for that. Good post. What do you think of the new spurs stadium then?

Re: Northumberland Development Project

^^The only reasonable response to that is, "Ask me when it's built."

The atmosphere is no better at WHL, to be fair. English fans, as a whole, are pathetically quiet these days.

As to the thread on Bluemoon, you only have to read what fans here on gg say about rival clubs to know that that too isn't unique to City.

I'm afraid I don't know anywhere enough about London to make a valid judgement on the Northumberland development, and haven't kept as up-to-date on the proposals as I would have liked. I know that there is a proposed hotel in there somewhere, and a new Sainsbury's, so the element of community seems to be something kept at the forefront of the plans which is obviously a good thing. But I know very little about things like catchment areas, proximity to other clubs and so many other social aspects.

One thing I can say is that the planning is meticulous, and lord knows that Spurs need the extra seats. White Hart Lane is one of those few stadia which is ALWAYS full.

Re: Northumberland Development Project

Those comments in the Haringey Indy from the Chick King fellow won't do much for match-day sales.

Re: Northumberland Development Project

Interesting to see that, despite being bankrupt and $20 billion in debt, the city of Detroit just approved a major new arena project in the decripit downtown area to house the Detroit Red Wings NHL team. A 44-56% public-private funding partnership. Some truly terrible districts in that area yet they are going ahead in investing to spur regrowth and development.

Harningey should pay attention.
