Tosin & Mudryk deals with Chelsea

Strange old summer really. I think you can feel genuinely excited about some of our signings and completely underwhelmed by others, with a hint of disappointment at some of the kids leaving us before really being tested in our shirt.

We still lack a true goal scorer. That was a major issue last season, remained one all summer, and is still one now, with 12 hours left before the window slams shut (copyright Jim White).

The lack of a recognised GS is a massive concern now it really is. I love Marmoush, wanted him for ages, but I don't think he is an out and out striker and you could see with his intelligent play dropping deep then the presence on the box is not there. I get that RDZ might like the false 9 etc, but I only think that takes you so far.

It's a valid complaint but we was never going to be able to overhaul everything in one summer, and quality no.9s are hard to come by.

I would like to think that with our improved attackers, plus RDZ system being embedded, and having Solanke and Richi be on the end of chances created we should get a decent amount of goals still. Yes they aren't the best strikers in the world, but in an attacking team with plenty of chances created I would expect them to score an appropriate amount to tie us over until next summer when our focus should be on a very good CF....

How many teams have a "recognised" goalscorer? Modern football has changed massively. City do, sure.

Arsenal? No
Man U? No
Villa? Not really, Watkins i guess.
Liverpool? No
Chelsea? Pedro yes.
Saudi Sportswashing Machine? No

It's not a requirement if your midfield and wingers provide the goals. Our issue has been the injuries and lack of options in both midfield and wingers.

Good point (although Liverpool have Isak) I’ve been thinking we surely have to sign a striker today, but you’re right that the PL is changing. However those teams have players with more goals in them than ours.

Just not sure Savio, Marmoush and Kudos have enough goals in them. Think we’ll still be playing Solanke or Richy (or Tel) as a 9.

(FWIW I’d be pleased if we get Mudryk, low risk gamble and he can def score if he regains his form/fitness)

What do you mean by recognised? A player that plays the CF role?
Arsenal have Gyokeres
Villa have Jackson
Liverpool have Isak and Ekitike
Man Utd have Sesko

I think a few of them absolutely do. Liverpool have 2 TBF

Thats fair but also when you look at our wingers I can't say they are out and out prolific goal scorers.

I probably subscribe to the idea Solanke plays with Marmoush who plays in a hybrid 10 role and supports him in attack. A 3 of Savio, Marmoush & Kudus is not going to be enough goals

OK. And? My point is this is a low-risk potentially high-reward move. He might be brick. He might be great.
Tbh I didn't explain myself properly. What I wanted to say is Twl isn't good enough to require backup, he needs to be the backup himself or ideally the 3rd guy that gets the odd few minutes here or there. Mudyrk I don't believe is a backup to him.

At worst they are viewed on the same level as although they don't have the same faults they both require a significant degree of development before either can consistently offer a positive contribution.

So I'm not anti bringing Mudyrk in, hes quite a drop from Ndiaye to be fair but hey we couldn't get that deal over the line I guess and he's an extra body as an option.

Was talking to my son about this at Saturdays game.

With a midfield 3 of Bents, Fernandes and Tonali you will control a lot of football matches. But you need a potent front 3 to execute amongst themselves.

Think back to Liverpool during the Salah, Firminho, Mane. They had 3 engines in midfield, no natural 10. But those 3 up top along with 2 gun full backs done the damage.

We don’t have goal getters in attack, it’s as simple as that. Therefore we’ll prob need to add a proper number 10 to help with that. That means we drop to a 2 man midfield which becomes less secure and a little more risky - but needed.

Sorry do you mean Gyokeres who has failed to start the first two games of the season behind Havertz a midfielder?

Sorry when you say Sesko, you mean the player who has also failed to start this season behind Cunha?

Therein lies my point, appreciate you making that for me. If you mean an out and out CF, then the game rarely has many that fit that mold. Have said countless times recently would Defoe be a starting striker in the PL in todays game? Probably not as his profile wouldn't work. He'd likely be shunted to be a winger at youth level and fail as he can't beat a man with trickery or searing pace and lacks height.

Anyway my point is, football is less reliant on out and out goalscorers and we need goals across the pitch.

Not sure what Marmoush can do, lets ignore what he did for City as he was mostly bit part to Haaland, hard to get momentum. When City signed him though he had 20 goals in 26 games for Frankfurt, while it is the Bundesliga it wasn't for Bayern so suggest he can at least score goals. (Also had 4 goals in 6 games in the Europa). That was the season he was playing as a CF for frankfurt, albeit he had another CF with him (Ekitike). That does suggest perhaps to get the best out of him (Solanke, Savio, Marmoush, Kudus) as a front 4. Only worrys then would be at the back as would have to drop Bents i guess.

Like I say, I think he is a fine fine player, so we will see what happens, I personally think he needs a presence with him up top, but we will see.

Trying to find some positives, Mudryk needs affection , kiss and a cuddle from de Zerbi should put him right.

The Italian stated: “Mykhailo has the potential for a top career. In my opinion, he can also win the Ballon d’Or. He is a player of the highest level but he is also very sensitive. He needs affection. We will see if he matches his potential.”

Under De Zerbi, Mudryk played 19 games in all competitions – including the UEFA Champions League, and he scored two goals while racking up nine assists for Shakhtar as well. The 19 games he played under the Italian is the most that he has played under any manager in his career so far.

Slightly concerning that Solomon outscored Mudryk that season under RDZ but hopefully he’s kicked-on since then…

Tel doesn't need a back up and Mudyrk won't be that Mudyrk is a project player to develop just like Tel. Neither are the finished article or really close. Mudyrk was better on the ball, faster and way better at beating his man but usually didn't know what to do after that or where to go with it.

If the Mudyrk deal works then medium term Tel will be moved on. If it doesn't work he's a body that never plays.

If Mudryk can be taught how to use the ball effectively in final third he might just develop into an elite attacker, if not then we’ve got another Werner / Madueke… so much for purchasing finished articles to get us into Europe though eh!

It strikes me as a quick pivot from the failed Ndiaye move which some might term a desperation move (some what fairly imo).given the time remaining in the window I guess we didn't really have any good options remaining.

@Diamond Lights no need to sound so touchy, I was just asking if you meant those teams didn't have a CF in the no.9 mould and I pointed out the ones I thought were.
Not disagreeing with your view at all, but I what I would say if offered any one of the ones I listed and obviously Haaland to bring to Spurs I would, maybe not Sesko.
