By your rationale we shouldn't have any depth anywhere? We have an established first 11 that needs challenging. The only player I've seen not need a deputy pretty much was Kane and even then during the Poch era it was always a panic when Harry did an ankle. For the rest, we need two of everyone. Two right backs, two left sided centre halves, two right sided, two left backs, two number sixes, 2 x 8s, 2 x 10s, 4 wingers, 2 9s and ideally a number 1 keeper and an able backup.

To suggest otherwise is to suggest we don't want to compete in European competition when we get back there. You cannot have the number of games and survive on 11-14 players, you need 22 able to compete.

Its specifically that CBs dont need rotation and arent ever tactical subs, so injuries and suspensions are the only factors in their cover. So the balance can often be better with 1 senior player option less than other positions.

Peak Poch squad had Sanchez as main cover, plus young Foyth and Dier able to cover in from CM. And that was ample. So its exactly what we've got now (with Philips and Davies), just without a Sanchez

Forget what we had under Poch, that was a period of under investment during which with a bit more depth we would likely have won trophies.

Instead take a look at the leading sides in the division today, and consider whether the management of those teams which earns millions might know a bit more than us couch coaches.

I don’t think Tosin is a goer as we had it all agreed with Fulham in the summer and he wouldn’t join because he wanted to go to Monaco who wouldn’t match what we offered Fulham.

I’m sure he will now see out these 6 months and join Monaco on a free.

That's your opinion, and honestly in your heart of hearts you know that's not true. It's also not an argument for not having players, you've just side stepped the argument.

I'm sure you've been critical of Dier before and as such adjusting your view on him just to suit an argument is flawed.

The teams that actually won things always have spare quality CBs. Look at Emirates Marketing Project in recent years, or Man It's under Fergie. Even when he had the likes of Rio and Vidic in their pomp the likes of Evans and Wes Brown still got games. If we had any depth we wouldn't be playing Davies, Dier or even a rb in Royal there.
