Toby Alderweireld

Toby is a great CB and of course ( like other great players) we would miss a player like that, however Poch is our manager and if he feels that Jan and Davinson are the two he wants to pick then i have no problem with that. IF our defense looks more open then in previous seasons then like others i would say its because the likes of Wanyama not being as good as he was last year.

Has our defence cost us this year?

We’re almost on the same amount of points as last season and the games that have cost us IMO werebones we didn’t win, not lose

We’re in exactly the same place so far in the FA Cup and in Europe we got further, but that’s the one comp you could argue it did hurt us

Absolutely this.
I actually have Toby as down for looking uncharacteristically dodgy a few times early-doors this season, and while I agree that a fully-fit and sharp Toby is tremendous, I simply think that man will never quite be again. My punt would be a payday in Paris or Germany where there is a little less level intensity. Paris has cash.

I
Know
My
Sheet

But I do love Toby... or Johnny Slope Head
But I love the club and the Poch more

Maybe 2016/17 was the season he peaked, his 2017/18 form has certainly been badly affected by injury and disruption.

However many of the top CBs have gone on to have their very best days in their early 30s. For sure they're slower but they more than make up for that through progessively improving their skills in leadership, vision, anticipation, timing, positioning, calmness in a crisis, safety and all round experience. Of course there will come a time when age takes over but that could still be as much as four or five seasons off.

Be that as it may, if he wants out there's no point in blocking him so we may as well sell to the highest bidder come summer. Hopefully that will be to somewhere like PSG but if it really does have to be to another PL club, so long as its not to a London rival so be it.

of course he has...shame its taken so many this long to realise and accept it

imo he already knows where he is going to....the red half of Manchester:mad:

Unless Manchester is next to the Seine I doubt it! We haven't sold a player to them for years. I believe the only way we would is if we got someone back the other way that we really wanted - currently there isn't anyone!

i know PSG are loaded but i dont think they will want to pay over 50 mill for a 28-29 year old centre half. Plus Toby is still too good for Ligue 1. If he wants the money and an easy league he may as well go to China

we havent sold a player to Utd for years its true, but we did sell one of the best right backs around to City last summer for big money so i dont see it being an issue for Levy. I think there are players we wont sell to Utd ( the likes of Kane, Dele, Eriksen, possibly Dier) but we may allow Toby to there ( i wouldnt but the money on offer could be too tempting to Levy)

I was one of them, and I can see him going to United too. They will pay more than many abroad (lots more)

If he stays fit
And of course if we agree to sell to them

this fitness thing is being overblown. He has had a few months off this season but has since been kept out by Poch despite being fit, and he had that knee thing last season which kept him out for about 10 games? Verts has missed a similar number of games over the last few years but no one questions him being fit

I do not think that it is a question of the offer being too tempting for Levy, I think that the manager has decided that he is surplus to requirements and that we should case in whilst we can still get good money for him and reinvest the proceeds in improving the team.
