It remains to be seen whether the French club could be tempted to do a deal whereby they sell next month and then take the player back on loan for the rest of the season.

If Liverpool pursue their reported interest they would be looking at Osimhen as a long-term signing rather than one who would make an immediate impact on the team.

With Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Ham Salad forming a fearsome first-choice front three, Liverpool would view him as a player who could provide back-up while being developed to one day replace one of the Reds forwards.

Liverpool have already stolen a march on their Premier League rivals by completing their first piece of January transfer business even before the window opens.

They have completed the £7.25m signing of Japan winger Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg on a four-and-a-half year deal.

Klopp said: “This is fabulous news – a wonderful signing. We are really, really happy about this.

“Takumi is a very quick, very clever player, he finds space between the lines. He is brave with the ball but also brave without the ball – a proper team player."

Not sure if serious or not but you can enter negotiations and even agree to sign a player at any point. You just can't register them until the next transfer window is open.

Some Diop rumours flying around.

When West Ham beat Man Utd last season Jose praised the scouts who had found Diop for West Ham. It was possibly a dig at the defenders he’d been given to work with but wouldn’t surprise me if he was keen.

Not sure if it’s an area to do 50m now Toby has signed.

He has been up and down but the lad IMO is a real talent

I would've thought that his performance against us would be enough to stop any interest, if there ever was any

Let's not get into tinfoil hat terrority. You can sign a player at any point you just can't register until the next open window. Lots of clubs do this, usually the more serious operators in the transfer window. They know what they want and are willing to pay the fee so don't waste time.

Well it’s a very cheap release fee so it’s not exactly a gamble and most sides would do that if they could get a player for probably half their value

We should be doing the same.

I guess the reason it is not widespread is because clubs might worry about injuries and the players being booed by their home fans.

You're thinking about the last 6 months of a players contract. At that point a player is allowed to talk to clubs in foreign leagues but not clubs in their own league.

Thats different to signing a player outside the window with the agreement of the selling club. As I said you can do that at any point and then just confirm it all once the next window is open.

Yup it's basically a no brainer on their part once they knew. If he works out well great if he's a total flop who cares he has cost a virtual pittance.

Schalke 04 have just confirmed that he will be leaving them on a free transfer in the summer.

Very highly rated despite him going full Schumacher last weekend.
