The transfer thread

We only stand a chance if we offer a deal that includes something like an obligation to sign. This is a loan originally and there are other clubs such as Villa apparently interested. So why would he pick us when we are not going to offer higher wages and no CL football etc? That is why it's very much down to the player unless we offer something to PSG that other clubs do not. So it depends on how highly we rate this guy - whether it is someone we want long term, if he is just viewed as a 'filler' for the rest of the season I don't think we will get him and even then we will have to hope other clubs don't match an obligation to buy type of deal.....
London is a huge traction
Then add in the Ange factor
It’s not a coincidence that pakyers join and say it was off the back of a convo with Ange
That’s not to say I don’t rate Emery but villas trump card is swapping Duran which imo would be daft for them
It will ultimately come down to £££ and it always does and that includes clubs PSR headroom

Yes, and if the price is fair and structured similar to outlined I can see us agreeing to an obligation to buy. Maybe we’ll also throw in 5m of the payment upfront.

It maybe that United or the Goons want him too but are not as motivated or have free cash. Or it might be the reverse, we just don’t know.

If the player thinks a half season shop window loan deal would earn him a better contract/transfer fee in the summer than what he is currently being offered then it might make sense to him.
Not sure we would want that because then we would be giving guarantees to a player he will be playing which will stunt Moore and Odoberts development (Moore about to be playing and Odobert not too far away) if we are only going to be giving him a few months window. Of course just speculating, but I'm not convinced we would do that....

Its not an Ange factor, plenty of players these days when signing talk about having conversations with the manager beforehand - it's not something special that Ange has come up with. I'm not convinced he would choose us ahead of Villa but regardless, there are the likes of Juve also looking at him - point being we are unlikely to be the most attractive option we have to the player so will have to make sure we differentiate any offer we are looking to make to PSG....

We shall see
Juve have money issues
Villa have very little PSR head room which is why the Duran link comes in

If we're not after an obligation that would suggest we're only interested in him to cover the injuries for the remainder of the season?

There is that I suppose.......shame as he is class and I think the CF role at Suprs is one to rotate often given the workload

I think as somebody has written earlier the game is changing and the fitness levels are being stretched to their limit, few players will be able to play 90 minutes in over 30+ games in a season. Players want to start every game and it's going to take sometime for the squad mentality to become acceptable to experienced players who have been use to playing the full game most of their career.

That's what I'm getting at (whilst of course having no real idea) is that if we are in for him it will most likely be because we want him permanently. The only way we would be interested in a straight loan is if we rated him ridiculously high as I think our wingers will be returning soonish( I haven't really seen him to see if this is a possibility) and Ange would rather give game time to those at the club long term..

Underperforming his xG somewhat at PSG, but small sample size and not by a lot. More an issue of getting chances than not taking them (to have more impressive numbers).

Showed before that in the right system and role he can get into scoring chances.

One concern for me would be if he's more of an open spaces, counter attacking player or also well suited to other phases of the game. I haven't seen him much, but kinda got the impression that he wasn't great in those other phases. But I know others disagree with that impression of mine and it's no more than an impression.
Yeah your last point is a good one. However, we’re not really a ‘camped on the edge of the oppos box’ type of team at the moment. Play still swings back and forward enough in our games for that sort of player to get enough space to express themselves imo.

This is the main point.
If he was not on our radar as a long followed target, we will not want an obligation. He could do a Werner for all we know and the obligation price won't be cheap. An option fits in with how we operate and obligation fudges with the plans if it's not working out. De-risk wherever we can (we've been burnt enough FFS).

Few clubs would want/accept/afford an obligation so it will probably soften to an option at the back end of January.
