The transfer thread

Watched Ali Gold on YouTube last night.

He said the club are considering two roads in the January window:
option A) strategic investments to enhance the squad, trying to bring in potential summer targets now. This wlll likely imvolve paying a premium on the summer price and take a lot longer to tie up.

option b) bring in loans/temporary options which are quicker to do. Also, if they are not confident enough in the manager being here come the end of the season this allows them to "back the manager without backing the manager" and having players on the books a new manager may not want. He also said the feeling is that loans allow the club to have senior bodies on the books that don't block the progress of the cohort of young players purchased. Do you buy a fourth high quality CB when Vuskovic is arriving in the summer for example?

I think we all know which option the club will take. The exception being that apparently the club are seriously considering bringing in a long term competitor to Vicario.

Positions being targeted: GK, CB, CM, forwards

Pretty much covered all his bases there, very mystic Meg.

Part of me just wants the loan-to-buys like we did with Kulu, Romero, Gio etc.

People forget that there are loan fees, signing on bonuses and salaries to cover. People talk about Olmo but my guess would be that we'd kiss goodbye to £10-15m of the budget. He'd still end up at Barca next season. It would be different if he became a Spurs player at the end of the loan.

Loans aren't just a free way to get a player short term. Some loan fees have been as much as 20m euros per season.

Apparently, Everton, Palace, Spammers and us are after Maxence Caqueret of Lyon, never heard of him until now and I jave just watched his Youtube vids. Reminds me of a Modricesque player.

Get him in and then see that he's rubbish and shout abuse at him. Plus he has a pretty cool name.

Would anyone take Rashford on loan ?

He's clearly fallen out with everyone at United

He's Good player, maybe just needs a new start?

Would need to take a wage cut of course.
Yes. I think he would be a brilliant loan signing. He will desperately want to prove Man Utd wrong so I think he’ll be hungry and focused. He is also a signing that could hit the ground running. Would start for us on the left and also cover the CF position. His £300k a week wages for half a season are entirely affordable for the club.

Id love him at the club, and yes whilst you say entirely affordable, I dont think it would be sanctioned. Who is our highest earner out of interest, Son?

Thanks, made me laugh.

I think a loan or 2 to cover some areas is a good idea, especially if we have other targets that we might not be able to get this window.
Chelsea would probably loan out Chilwell. If we can’t bring in a strategic target now (always difficult in January) or can purchase one but with them staying where they are until the summer then he would be a sensible loan.

Also, Man Utd need a left wingback, perhaps we could punt Regulion off to them.

I get that, but if the players we want army available just now, do we stick with what we have, or buy someone further down the list.

Center back we only need short term.
We then have Vuskovic and Phillips back at the end of the season.

That's one play a loan would work for us.

I'm hopefully we'll sign a young HG GK (Tickle, Trafford), a young HG LB (Cirkin, Mitchell) and a WF on loan (someone random from Paratici's black book).

I'd also like to see us do as much deck clearing as we can ahead of the summer - Gil, Solomon and Austin on permanents; plus some of Forster, Whiteman, Regulion and Werner gone early if we can.

I get it, but I don't see a logical name.

If you take Godfrey as an example, why would he agree to Spurs? He's just spent half a season getting splinters. What do Atalanta want? The comfort of him being on their bench, or a transfer fee. I doubt they want to loan fee when they're chasing the league title.

Christensen would be the one for that 6 month role. It would give Barca time to get their squad in order/allow them to name Olmo
