The transfer thread

Apparently most of our players are due back within the next 10 days so that will help massively and fair chance we'll be out of both the league and FA cup shortly anyway which leaves us with 14 league games plus Europa afterwards. I'm sure that weighed on signings, wouldn't mind 1/2 on loan just to boost the squad and give others a rest.

To be fair for most players it makes sense to wait until the summer when they'll likely have more options and if they're still attracted to us they'll be able to see if we change manager and also if we improve once the players come back.

I wonder if players are rejecting spurs because of angeball.

Feels like we've never had it this bad.

It's perhaps more the case that there is no chance of UEFA football from the league. That is a massive optic. If you look at Villa, they are in the CL and 4 points from 4th spot. They are betting their careers on playing for a club in 15th place that needs to win a cup to satisfy their desire to play in Europe.

Whether that is the same as rejecting Ange-ball I don't know but will be a factor.

If you're an elite player or on the verge of hitting that status why would you join Spurs? Those sort of players never have under ENIC and even rarely did under Sugar. Now consider the chaos that Spurs have been over the last 6 years. The various managers with differing unmatched by the club philosophies add to that we don't pay the wages to entice such players to choose us over other options and if I were such a player I can't see myself committing my next move to Spurs.

We are going to have to rebuild our footballing status before we are attractive to such players. We need to regularly qualify for Europe at a minimum. It probably means going all in on the younger player model from clubs lower down on the food chain. It also means sorting out the managerial situation. We need someone who can work within the confines of the club setup but also maximise the situation in the mould of a Poch. Ange is yet to do that, he's been the opposite, we are performing below reasonable expectations of par and that's not even taking into account the injury situation, once again you might be wary of joining and potentially picking up one of those hamstring tears that seem to be given away like candy at Spurs.

If I'm a player and not a fan Tottenham is a big risk that if I have options, is one I'm probably not taking.

This is a little deeper though. In this window we're not landing the players at the age that Modric, Eriksen, Berbatov were when they joined. Ditto Romero, VDV, Bentancur etc. None of these past or present players joined us as 18 year olds. We grabbed them at the right time on their trajectory. Early twenties.

I think that is what I was hoping for in this window, moreso than the elite players.

League position and uncertainty about who the manager will be are probably the most important factors.

Players with good advisors will want to go a club playing a style of football that will benefit them in the future. Loads of examples where players have moved clubs, seemed like good sensible signings, but then the manager changes and they no longer fit the system.

Good agents will imo be very aware of that risk.

Loan with an option would have been a good deal but then that'd require Ange actually wanting him and Rashford wanting the move himself.
Don't think he's a good profile fit for Angeball.

Also looked at his best playing on the left. Although we've been short of options there because of injuries it's not one of the areas we're actually short on options with players returning from injuries.
