The transfer thread

Depends on who we want to sign. What the reasons are for those "delays". Imo we don't know.

For sure there are deals we could have done early in the window. But if the deals we could have done then are seen as lesser deals for lesser players than we could do late in the window I'm not convinced pushing through the early deals is the righ thing to do.

For sure the scouting/target identification work was already being done in Nov/Dec. But the actual deals? That almost never happens. For a multitude of reasons.
Yep
It’s weird but it’s how all clubs do it
Even city with money no object still took a couple of weeks for players no one else was able to get

I would like to remind everybody that Nico Williams has a 50m euros release clause. He does have a salary that would be around our "wage cap", but this can be mitigated by giving him a big signing bonus. Would he have wanted to come to us last summer? We don't know, because Levy was to busy worrying about his imaginary and unnecessary wage cap, as we are în the top 10 richest clubs în the world. He is fairly young too, but Levy is only interested în building for the future if the future doesn't ask for a lot of money. How many players like him, where we refuse to at least attempt to sign them because of their wage demands? Can you have the best în any field without paying top salaries?
If the player was prepared to leave Spain and move to England then I’m sure he would only want to join one of the ambitious clubs

The point isn't the wages we can or can't offer - it's what others can. If he was on the move he'd have all/most the top clubs interested and they could all offer whatever we could - so all things being equal why would he choose us over any other club?

As for he knew we were ambitious în the summer. Got some transfers, European football, no injuries, attractive attacking football, many thought we would fight again for top 4.

I thought Arsenal had already agreed to sign him in the summer? Even so what the F**K are we playing at? Lange going after superstars just so when he's gone he can say "well I wanted Williams!" But the club wouldn't back me!? Etc.

Tbf, he might have been suggesting a fair few decent players but being blocked by those above. When when we signed Kinksky wasn't there all that "Levy was crucial in closing the deal" stuff? So perhaps the other side of things is also happening too...

We say what we like about Paratici but he identified two players in one January window who came in and were arguably the reason we got into the CL thst season. It can be done if the work and plans are laid ahead of time clearly and well enough IMO...

I think that was probably Muani. But we are a tough sell compared to Juve in our current doom loop
