Amazing consistency there, 4 points between our best and worst years over a span of 6 years

Questions then all the talk about the impact of managers/selling key players/etc.

Be interesting to see what 4th place points were (how much it varied over the same period), have we really done that much better in our 4th place years or just our competition has done worse on those years.

@SteveAWOL

brilliant charts those - just reinforces my perception that we've been putting out some really unexciting, neither-here-nor-there, displays out there.
  • in attacking effectiveness - most like west ham, then everton
  • in zero net shots - most like everton, then stoke
  • in defensive effectiveness- most like west brom and stoke
Points wise, that we're above all of them in the table shows that we're doing something much better (albeit just +1 vs west ham)

Interesting stat Jordinho. I imagine that's a rather significant change since the AVB days.

Still a work in progress, but can see what Poch is trying to do.

Well. You can also look at the teams doing better than us. Primarily the big teams, with Southampton the exception for the first two stats. Defensive solidity still suffering a bit more. We're in or close to the correct quadrant for the first two.

Those stats are presumably based on the whole of this season and include our poor patch when Poch was battling to get his ideas across and discover his best eleven. We have improved considerably since then so it would be interesting to discover where we sit based on say the last dozen games:

PL record 2014/15

First 11
P11 - W4 D2 L5 - GF14 GA16 - Pts 14

Last 12
P12 - W8 D2 L2 - GF21 GA14 - Pts 26

Interesting. Question follows: how does Poch improve our defensive without compromising our forward play?

It is amazing that Kane is the top goal scoring striker and Eriksen the top goal scoring midfielder in the league now. But a disappointing fact is, other than Kane, Eriksen and Chadli, we cannot rely on others to get the goals for us now.

And Chadli was high up on the Goals +Assist chart before his break as well.

3 players in your starting 11 contributing heavily with goals is a very good thing, I'm assuming your point is re bench options

I did some analysis on PL teams' chance creation, and came up with the following stat - minutes of possession per shot taken inside the penalty area. We are 19th :( - just reaffirms how much we struggle to create chances.

Luckily though we've been pretty clinical and/or good at scoring from outside the area - as have Man United, who are just 2 spots above us.

1 Emirates Marketing Project 4.8
2 West Ham 5.7
3 Chelsea 6.0
4 Queens Park Rangers 6.1
5 Arsenal 6.2
6 Southampton 6.4
7 Crystal Palace 6.5
8 Leicester 6.6
9 Liverpool 6.7
10 Burnley 6.8
11 Saudi Sportswashing Machine 7.3
12 Aston Villa 7.3
13 Stoke 7.4
14 Hull 7.8
15 Swansea 7.8
16 West Bromwich Albion 8.3
17 Manchester United 8.4
18 Sunderland 8.4
19 Tottenham 8.9
20 Everton 9.2
