The Spanish Football Thread

Barca, the gift that keeps on giving. Haven't registered aboomerang yet. Now trying to say he's out of contract so they can sign him outside the window.

Hold up might be dombele not leaving and freeing up funds. Oh what fun.

Barcelona have been very very good recently, Xavi is doing a great job with such a young team with no real superstars in it.

Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona (after about an hour)

Aubameyang with two goals. It's odd how a transfer of one player can improve two teams.

I guess it shows that it’s never as simple as a player being either amazing or total brick which is what we (online football fans in particular) like to make out. A lot more about where a player’s head is at and relationship with the manager /system, not discounting talent of course, it all factors in.

That is a remarkable result when looking at the lineups and league standing, thought Xavi might have been a patsy to appease fans in a nostalgia w@nkathon manner but he has seemed to turn things around.

There's Bilbao Athletic.

There's Atletico Madrid.

And there's no FCukin' Athletico.

But there are fcukwits who can't see - or spell - the difference.

I might be misremembering, but for years, when Spanish football was on sky, I'm pretty sure ex Spur Gerry Armstrong, called the Madrid team Athletico.

Big fan here of Gerry Armstrong. Got to meet him and chat at the N.I. camp at the '82 World Cup in Espana. Couldn't meet a nicer guy. But his mispronunciation of club names is hardly the basis for further cultural misdeeds.

True, but that's probably the only exposure to Spanish football a lot of people had, and may explain the irregularity.
