The Spanish Football Thread

Even though he had a good WC Rodriguez is no where near Di Maria. Silly decision by Real.

I don't watch much Spanish football but whenever I do watch real Sergio Ramos does something epically stupid again today what an absurd move to tackle the Athletico man off a throw in with no danger.

I always heard that he was top class defender but with all the **** ups I have seen from him I cannot see how?

Is anyone watching the Valencia-Espanyol game by any chance?

Hector Moreno is playing from the start apparently....

Lionel Messi insists he will not leave Barcelona and says any talk linking him with a move away from the club is 'lies'.
Messi's future with the Catalan giants has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with stories circulating that he is unhappy with coach Luis Enrique's tactical approach to the game.
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu played down claims Messi was looking to leave last week and the player has now spoken out as well, criticising people he feels are trying to unsettle him and the club.
"I don't demand anything for me to stay because I have no intention of leaving anywhere," he told Barca TV.
"I've heard stories I've spoken to Chelsea or City, that's all lies. I have taken this chance to deny it so that everyone knows the truth. I am grateful to be able to give my version of events."
Messi, speaking after playing a big part in helping them beat reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid 3-1, is also determined to show a united front within the playing ranks at the Nou Camp.
"It hurts me because it comes from here, from Barcelona, from people that love the club, or say they do. It doesn't come from Madrid like it has in the past," he added.
"It is not good that they look for rivalry between Luis Enrique and I because there isn't any,"
"I've heard so many things. There have been things said in the past that I have bad relationships with (Pep) Guardiola, (Samuel) Eto'o, Bojan, Ibra (Zlatan Ibrahimovic), that's not true.
"I never asked for them to get rid of the coach or anybody. That's not true, I would never do that.
"More than ever we have to be united
"They try to make out that I run the club, I'm just another player in the squad like my team-mates. I don't make decisions, I don't want to make decisions."

It really is funny how the media can make you misinterpret a players attitude and profile for so long just by exaggerating and making things up. I guess it is kind of Messi's fault for keeping quite for so long.

As there is a transfer ban on Barcelona, the entirety of the presidential elections coming up will be based on who can convince Messi to stay, instead of the usual "I promise to sign..."

Juan Laporta is apparently favourite, and also a friend of Messi. There will be a lot of linking Messi to other clubs in the press, but he won't go anywhere. However he will play along to help Laporta strengthen his position as the man who can convince him to stay at the club.

I love how Messi coming out and denying all the rumours now means United is on high alert.

Torres' 2nd makes it Real 1-2 Athletico. First was 49 seconds into the game and the 2nd 36 seconds into the second half. Unbelievable.

With a lack of transfer rumour threads I'll just stick this in here:

Spurs tell Malaga they’re preparing summer bid for Ignacio Camacho

Tottenham Hotspur have signalled their intention to sign Malaga midfielder Ignacio Camacho in the summer transfer window, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The report claims that Spurs have contacted the Spanish club to inform them of their interest in signing the 24-year-old anchorman and to confirm that a bid will be forthcoming at the end of the season.

Italian sides Napoli and Inter Milan, plus Malaga’s La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid, are also said to be keen to land Camacho, but Spurs’ communication puts them at the front of the queue.

Marca suggests that Camacho is the ‘crown jewel’ of the current Malaga squad and suggests that the club will cash-in on their star at the end of the current campaign.

Camacho, capped once by Spain, started his youth career on the books of Real Zaragoza before coming through the ranks at Atletico Madrid.

The former Spain Under-17 captain joined Malaga in 2011 and has since made more than 100 appearances for them.
