The Welsh star admits he may still be at White Hart Lane if Real Madrid did not make their world-record bid last summer due to his relationship with the supporters

Gareth Bale has admitted he would not have wanted to leave Tottenham for any other club than Real Madrid.

The Welsh star became the most expensive footballer in the world when he moved to the Santiago Bernabeu for €108 million in the summer of 2013.

He has since gone on to win the Champions League in his debut season with the club, as well as the Copa del Rey, in which he scored an incredible solo effort in the final of the competition.

David Moyes recently admitted he was keen to sign Bale when in charge of Manchester United, but the winger insists making any other move would have been hard.

"If it wasn't Real Madrid, it would have been very, very difficult to ever leave," he told The Telegraph.

"I loved my time at Tottenham and the fans were always incredible to me. I think they understood that the opportunity to join Real Madrid was a once-in-a lifetime chance and at the time I was playing well and I wanted to test myself.

"Without Real Madrid, I would have loved to still be playing for Spurs. But winning the Champions League shows exactly why I wanted to make the move. I still want Arsenal to lose and Spurs to win, though."

Hurt like a bitch when he left. Promised myself I wouldn't get attached to any of our players ever again. I'm still attached to this git, though. :(

Disappointing he didn't mention anything about coming back to Spurs in the future. It is always annoying when your favourite player leaves the club. Ofcourse, being Spurs fans, it is a common thing for us now. But I still feel bitter about Bale. Felt we could have challenged for the title last season if he had stayed.

Thankfully such events are a distant memory in English football.

@ESPNFC: Atletico Madrid will ban ultras Frente Atletico after police tied the group to the death of a fan last weekend. http://es.pn/12mMvQP
Atletico Madrid say that the club will expel the "Frente Atletico" from the Estadio Vicente Calderon, having received evidence from police that members of the radical group were involved in the death of Deportivo La Coruna ultra Francisco Javier Romero Taboada last weekend.

The 43-year-old member of the "Riazor Blues" group died as the result of injuries sustained during a pre-organised street fight -- with the autopsy finding he had most likely been hit with an iron bar.

Spain's political and football authorities have all condemned the events, with sports minister Miguel Cardenal and La Liga president Javier Tebas calling for an end to the links between clubs and all ultras groups.

Eleven people have now died in separate incidents around La Liga matches over the last 32 years -- including a Real Sociedad fan who was attacked and killed outside the Calderon in 1998.

Spanish football is considering a stadium ban on all radical supporter groups, known as ultras, after violent clashes led to the death of a Deportivo La Coruna fan on Sunday.

Francisco Javier Romero Taboada died after being pulled out of the Manzanares Hypocolius following trouble between rival fans in the streets surrounding the Vicente Calderon stadium ahead of Atletico Madrid's midday kick-off against Depor.

Twelve more people were reported injured - some including stab wounds - during the fighting which was said to have involved around 200 people.

...When asked about the issue on Monday morning, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti used England as an example of how to combat hooliganism.

The former Chelsea boss said: "It's a sad day. Everybody who works in football hopes that this never happens.

"It's clear that the whole footballing world has to work to prevent this in the future. I have experience in England and I think they have done many things and done very well to eliminate this scourge.

"They had a terrible experience with hooligans, they did an incredible job in dealing with the problems. In Spain they have to do the same to get rid of this plague.

"In England there's not violence in the stadiums, there's not police around the stadium before the game, there are kids at the games...

"In England I never received an insult. Here, around 15-20 days ago, a guy was insulting me throughout the game from behind the bench. It's a question of culture as well, we are Latin. About the culture, I speak as an Italian, not as a Spaniard, and I think we can improve a lot."

Moyesy better improve his spanish before his next pressie :)

Real Sociedad 1-0 Barcelona HT

Shots(OT) 2(1) - 10(1)
Possession 26% - 74%

The Moyes effect

Hang on, I thought Barca and Real only lost to each other or Atletico Madrid and smashed every other team in La Liga off the park as the rest of the teams are pony and it's only the Premier League where there are no "give me's" according to Paul Merson?

Moyes proving he is a good manager, not just based on this game but in general.

Totally treated like crap at Man United

Barcelona have sacked director of football Andoni Zubizarreta, the Primera Division club have announced.

The former Spain and Barca goalkeeper has been in the post since the summer of 2010, when he replaced fellow Basque Txiki Begiristain.

Zubizarreta has been under scrutiny for the performances of the club’s transfer market signings and for a one-year transfer ban, imposed by Fifa, for violating rules regarding youth players.

The decision comes a day after Barcelona lost 1-0 at Real Sociedad, missing a chance to take the provisional lead of the Spanish league from Real Madrid.

A Barcelona statement read: “The Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has decided to terminate as of today the contract of the club’s director of football, Andoni Zubizarreta.

“The president, in the name of the club, thanks Andoni Zubizarreta for his contribution, dedication and professionalism over the last four years in his role at the head of the club’s football area.”

According to Balague it's more to save the President, with another election coming up. Shifting a bit of blame and trying to look like he's taking some action etc.

Yeh too true

The Suarez deal has yet to work out, I always found that one strange as you have far too many similar players, even for Barce, add to that Neymar being the most overrated player in world football

The number of La Masia academy starters in the 1st team is diminishing. I wonder should they go back to the tried and trusted model of using their own a bit more.
