The Official Knee Jerk thread

We are clearly one of the top three sides in the country. On paper, we have one of the top two squads in the country. Third should be a cinch, but for that to be the case, we desperately ned our manager to return to the fundamentals of football, stop playing his best players out of position and make sure that he leans on the internationally-experienced stars he has at his disposal. If VdV starts today's game, and if Luka plays central and Bale on the left, we win easily...I am concerned that Harry is (once again) so distracted that some obvious brick is going amiss...I hope he rediscovers his tactical sense for the run-in...

I do not agree with the top three squad business. Thats the only thing I find difficult to believe as to how overrated our squad is. We miss players in key positions. When one of our first teamers in a key position are injured i.e. Lennon/Bale/Ade/BAE/King et al we look less stronger MUCH less stronger.

This summer i EXPECT no I DEMAND that our squad is strengthened

I dis-agree, Our squad is full of players who are inconsistent and bottle it when it matters, I will list a couple for you.

Jermain Defoe - If we are winning or losing by lots of goals, Then he will score but If we need him to score then he will miss.
Adebayor - Lazy, First touch of King Kong.
Bale - He seems to think he is Ronaldo, Lost that hunger to drive on and work hard, Getting lazy.
Modric - Goes missing in Big Games, I don't know if it's because 4-4-2 doesn't work vs 3 in Midfield.
VDV - Inconsistent.
Kaboul and King - Clumsy and inconsistent partnership.
Walker - Good RB but prone to lapses of concentration.
Ekotto - Good player but the same as Walker.
Sandro - He has believed his own hype.

time for calm reflection and not panic. had an incredibly difficult run of fixtures compromising 4 of the 6 most difficult away games consecutively and only 1 soft home game (wigan) offering any respite and at the end of it we will stll be 3rd and only have 1 game left this season which we cannot win

not to mention there's about 50/50 chance we'll be in the fa cup final

We're fudging up but that's more to do with our managers ridiculous team selection, tactics an formation as opposed to us having played bad. Eventually arry will come to his senses. The season is in no way, shape or form over.

has the manager lost the dressing room? i know if i was in the dressing room or changing room if you like i would be losing a lot of respect for redknapp

He had better get a grip sharpish, imo.

Be fair DHSF, there's no way we could have got a backup winger in January. Or the summer before.

Players like Hoilett, Jarvis, Albrighton, Drenthe simply weren't available and there is no way we could have prised them away from their lower/midtable teams...

and I agree therefore how can we be blaming Harry for his selections? Someone will argue that VDV should have played right side but a)how many on here have said they never wanna see VDV on the right again, before this game even started and b)Playing Everton is very different from playing against Stevenage at WHL so VDV may not have been fit enough, and how many on here say that we always rush him back.

I agree about the cover, the last two windows were cost saving and squad reduction exercises. We have done that by bringing in loanees and getting rid of players. This summer is about strengthening. Not only bringing in high quality cover in crucial areas such as the wide areas but also maybe one or two first teamers i.e. defender and striker.

Anyways back to my original point - the season is not over we just have too many players off form yet we are still dominating teams like Everton and even Utd. We just dont have the resources, in my opinion, to be able to freshen up the first team every once in a while.

while the season is not over, we still have good players, far above many teams, despite having some holes to plug. in fact we have some better than good players.

questions have to be asked about redknapp - its only normal to do so, as we seem unable to be getting more out of our players under different conditions.

here are some more valid ones:
- fitness level and conditioning - big warning signs when we are struggling at the end of games
- lack of shooting set piece excellence - without a doubt, trainining methods
- 'free role players' - seems too me too much freedom without accountability
- "playbook" for attack - strikers and free-role player often bunching up together or running into each other
- possession in the final third - wastefulness, very low percentage of crosses connecting
- developing talents/specialist skills - not just exposure, but developing real skill for TEAM football. (e.g. would Bale, Modric, Lennon be developing better under Fergie?)

there are other questions to ask, but the above i feel are things that can be done in improved in training, or to be more critical, are questions that can be attributed to what we do in training.

i recall we that we are one of the few that don't play the reserve league. i'm sure there's both pros and cons to this decision, but whatever we miss out, I do wonder if we do compensate for that in training.

my personal view of harry is that he runs the team mostly from a "feel good" factor. that's one way of management and a valid one. the weakness in that model is that when the 'feel good' factor is lost, the disciplined systems aren't there to support another style of play, approach etc.

win, lose or draw, harry has always had these questions over his head.

having said that, he would be perfect for the England manage role for the above attributes.

Very good points=D>

Get the lads to cut out the crappy food, double and triple training sessions, training on spatial awareness, get those eye training for fighter pilots, all to read zonalmarking and write papers on how they'd tackle their next opponents, what kind of formations we should set up, etc .....

We are in the deep doo-doo, I really hope we get a result at the shed, after we win at home to bolton and stoke (two tough games, but we can win them, and should IMO, despite recent results, because our performances have shown me we can). If we don't, then we will deffo have thrown away the great work we've done, the red and blue scum will ride the crest of a wave, we'll be in mourning - again ! WE MUST SECURE THIRD !!! GGGgnnnaaaahhhh

good post, not much to disagree with i think

Look I'm not a "panic merchant" just a realist. Comments such as we will get third are based on two misguided factors. The first is our past form. Yes we were playing the best football in the league, but that was LAST YEAR! Look at out results since then. Apart from our performance against an undermanned Saudi Sportswashing Machine, we have been playing crap football for some time. The problem was, that we were still getting results, now we are not. The optimists are basing their positivity on how things were, not on how things are. The second reason is completely irrational. It is simple blind faith. Sorry blind faith has never held any gfreat attractions for me.

In my opinion the problem is Sandro is clearly not fit. In fact, he's quite a long way off being fit. I don't think it's a more serious issue than that.

I don't believe the players who were tearing the premiership up a few months ago are now not good enough.
Either there is a motivation problem or its all a tactical problem or its both.
Luckily we have the best motivator in the game as our manager. Don't we?
