The Official 2019/20 Premier League Thread

As above, 22 players per club plus staff will not have any meaningful increase on the number of infected people in the UK, and it wont have any impact at all on the NHS (reason being that the numbers are small and these are all fit, healthy people).

Therefore if there is minimal downside, but provides some upside of 'getting back to normal(ish)' then it has to be worth it

But the players are getting it so although I believe in a Sweden type situation following UK guidelines if one players gets it let alone 3 from one club then they will deem the risk too high, or they should based on the standard set by the UK lockdown.

Anyone just contracting the virus would seem in my opinion a big downside (based on the UK lockdown)

This is good to see. 0.5% of tests coming back as positive. The self-isolation should also mean that most clubs and players (excl Aurier!) take this seriously

Hopefully they'll agree another ratcheting up of training soon - I think there was meant to be a decision on that at the end of this week (i.e. today) and presumably on the back of seeing what the results of the above tests were like.

La Liga and Serie A starting again soon; think the PL will too in June and crossing fingers for a run at a CL place from Spurs

(that said, I think a second wave of Covid-19 is nailed on for the autumn so questionable whether european competitions would get completed next season)

Premier League clubs have voted unanimously to approve a return to contact training, in another significant step towards the resumption of matches "when safe to do so".

The Premier League said in a statement: "Premier League Shareholders today voted unanimously to resume contact training, marking another step towards restarting the Premier League season, when safe to do so. Squads are now able to train as a group and engage in tackling while minimising any unnecessary close contact. The Premier League's priority is the health and wellbeing of all participants. Strict medical protocols are in place to ensure the training ground is the safest environment possible and players and staff will continue to be tested for COVID-19 twice a week. Stage Two of the Return to Training protocol has been agreed following consultation with clubs, players, managers, the PFA, LMA and the Government. Discussions are ongoing as work continues towards resuming the season, when conditions allow."

Minimising unnecessary close contact...
No handshakes after tackles, just sprint in opposite directions.

Dreadful decision there are people that can't go to the funerals of their families and people are dying and they are approving the return of a non essential contact sport.

Pathetic especially given the uproar and fall out on the Cummings situation, I don't see how this decision can be applauded

If they properly enforce the "unneccesary close contract" bit when matches resume, how will that affect Aurier - because we all know he loves an unneccesary tackle... o_O

I agree, it's a shocking decision and i can not understand how any fan could want it back. We all love football but this is wrong ( imo).

What happened about the PL wanting the players to sign waivers in case they caught the virus? Players were reported to be (understandably) not in favour. Has that gone away now?

The Premier League managers have been told that the season will be completed in as little as six weeks if the plans for the resumption of the season remain on track

I read about 5 games back to back on both Saturdays and Sundays

PL shareholders voting to resume training is like turkey farmers voting for Christmas.

Great that its coming back - the legal issues would have been horrendous had it been cancelled....and it'll also be incredibly satisfying when we pip Cheatski to 4th!

Swings and roundabouts though.....he's very good a social distancing from when running back.
