The Official 2017/18 Premier League Thread

When every ground has to look the same, it IS uniform and boring.

It's the green rectangle they play on that's in question, not the stadium.

Crap like this detracts from my enjoyment of a game:

i was partly surprised that Levy hadn't sold our pitch as advertising space. "Stubhub" mown into the pitch in massive letters lol

Advertisements on the actual pitch are already banned by FIFA regulation, otherwise we would have had Stubhub and AIA mown into the grass already.

I'll challenge you to find a lower league groundsman with those skills! It looks fantastic, and as long as there are no messages or obscene symbols, I think it should be allowed. Why must everything be so fudging uniform and boring? Next thing will be pre-defined songs and chants. No one should be allowed to have unique songs or chants. How about that?

A bit fun when it's a new thing only one club is doing. If most clubs in the league started doing it it would geft really old really quickly.

If the green striped grass with 22 players and a ball looks boring to you I don't know what to say. I love the look of a traditional pitch and the look of that as the game is getting closer is perfect for me.

Why must everything be new and fresh and changed? Can't we keep some of the tradition alive? What's next? No fans can keep singing songs they've been singing for more than five years?

More news regarding the upcoming season:

Simulation suspensions

Players who dive or feign injury could face a two-match suspension starting from this season.

Footage from the weekend's fixtures will be reviewed each Monday and any player found guilty of simulation will be banned.

The three-man panel will consist of one former match official, a former manager and an ex-player.

The Football Association will only be able to impose the ban if the panel's decision is a unanimous one.

If a player is found guilty of deceiving an official or admits to the charge, the yellow or red card given to the opposing player can be rescinded.

Well, a step in the right direction, anyway. I can hear Mourinho moan from here already. :p

You just know if one of our players gets put in front of the panel, it will be Dean, Sherwood and Judas...

That last paragraph sounds as if it can only be scrutinised if the opponent gets a yellow or red.

That can't be right. There must be scope to scrutinise anything that Sky decide is worthy of comstant replays from every possible angle, especially when against a Sky favourite. And conversely, if Sky deem something not to have been a dive, then no need to investigate further. That would be the fairest way.

Where retrospective action could be taken:
  • Where an alleged act leads to a penalty
  • Where an alleged act leads to a straight red card for an opponent
  • Where an alleged act leads to a dismissal of an opponent [where the alleged act led to the opponent receiving either one of the two cautions]

It's a start but it doesn't go nearly far enough.

We need to make sure that there's nowhere on the pitch for cheats to hide. If that means 5 or 10 times the teams they have now then fine - football can afford it.

It could be self-funding too - just fine any player caught diving half a week's wages.

It would mean, of course, that Neymar will never play in the PL but for some that's no bad thing.

Is this instead of or in addition to the chemical castration?
