The "Official" 2013/14 Other teams matches thread

You even saw last night him moving quite intelligently, popping up through the centre and using the ball well there too. A really bizarre swell of negative opinion around him I must say.

I purely focused on Andros yesterday. Not too many wayward passes, used the ball well, worked and worked, came back to help, one cracking shot... Nothing he could do if the players around him were not on the same hymn sheet. The central midfield pairing just didn't work.

Walker on the other hand

I do actually think England are on the up - admittedly, we've been pretty poor for a while, but there are some encouraging signs:

1. I think a big part of that is having a settled side - now we're just tweaking:

- The back five, aside from Cole/Baines, is sorted. They're playing together more regularly and are relatively solid.
- The Carrick-Gerrard axis is sorted. They're good players, just undynamic and slow.
- The front 3, aside from Townsend/Walcott, is sorted. They're frustrating, but they're talented and add something different.
- We just need to decide who plays alongside Carrick and Gerrard. Personally, I think it needs to be Lallana. He works hard, so can help out Gerrard and Carrick, but also is capable of linking with the front 3 and adding some unpredictability.

2. The tactics are clearer than they've been for many a year - keep it solid and get it to the front 3. It's not rocket science, but at least it's a plan.

3. England have been utterly pedestrian for a long time, but in Sturridge and Townsend at least there's some potential for ingenuity. Lallana, Morrison and Barkley all have a 'spark' as well and should be able to move the ball quickly.

4. There are some good squad players - Morrison, Barkley, Wheelchair, Carroll and perhaps Lennon and Zaha. They all add something a little different.

They are antispurs.......................

Towsend was indeed Englands best player //Gerard was good at the back...

It makes you wonder why wer'e not more potent in attack the way Townsend can play? Im talking Spurs..LOL offcorse..

Legend!

So glad he was a Spur, really thought he was a superb loan signing and very underrated throughout his whole career.

Because he plays best running into space.
No one sits back and defends against England.
England don't dominate possession, they counter attack and Townsend ends up in a lot of space.

West Brom have received an apology from referees' chief Mike Riley for the award of Chelsea's injury-time penalty at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

Do they get the 2pts back? No didnt think so.

And did they pay Chelsea's bribe money back? Nope, didn't do that either.

Hmmm I'm not sure about all these kids at a World Cup... they will be out of their depth IMO

I'd love to think Barkley, Zaha, Sturridge, Townsend etc will burst into life and be brilliant within 6 months but I'm not convinced they will be ready to face the world's best. Too naive.

Maybe we should use our natural wingbacks for width and pack the midfield with a narrow 4-1-4-1 and get England's most experienced team out there with a packed midfield area as that is where England usually lose games.

Our best/most experienced players are Carrick, Gerrard, Lampard (very old but still got it) Rooney, so something like this would have an experienced spine at least

...................Hart
Walker....Cahill......Jagielka.....Cole
..................Carrick
....X..Gerrard....Lampard....Y.....
.................Rooney

Where X and Y could be ball players rather than sprinters. It is natural to think of wingers like Lennon, Townsend, Walnut etc. but maybe if we had ball players like Lallana or whoever... you could change the whole lineup by changing X and Y.

We may never score, but you could say that about Germany last night with zero strikers, and they scored.

And don't even mention Milner or Wheelchair, absolute shi'ites

Benzema's goal for france was a bit offside wasnt it? :-k dodgy or what

Football is finally back again.

Everton - Liverpool
Arsenal - Southampton
West Ham - Chelsea

I predict a long day on the couch. A tough job, but somebody has to do it. :D
