The "Official" 2013/14 Other teams matches thread

It's beautiful. I would never rule out Chelsea though, they are just crammed with too much natural talent to do poorly for long. The likes of Oscar, Hazard, Van Ginkel, Schurrle, KdB, Kalas, McEachran etc are all pretty young and new to this league too, though one could argue Mourinho won't be terribly nurturing to all of them.

I'm hoping that by stockpiling midfield talent to such a massive extent they are effectively neutralising a lot of them because they all want to play regularly and their form suffers.

I'm hoping that they get a shock and it so transpires that throwing money at good players so that other teams can't get them doesn't actually work.

We have a good squad but I get the feeling that any player that isn't a guarenteed starter is understanding the situation and is ok with fighting for a place. Chadli won't mind fighting with Siggurdsson. Holtby won't mind fighting with Eriksen. Capoue knows he has to perform to get Sandro out and Chiriches will know he has to show good stuff to replace Dawson or Jan.

But with Chelsea, you have to believe Schurrle being bought for 20 mil expects to be a regular. Ditto Willian. De Brunye has done his loans and now feels he should be playing more. Mata is not playing as often. Lukaku has gone out again. It's sending out a strange message, as most of their players are established and would be expecting to play, where as ours are all young, have something to prove and are ok with going about doing that.

I'd suggest the Chelsea side of 04 bringing in the likes of Drogba, Essien, they were young and hungry players. They had something to prove. But they didn't have the status that they would expect to be starters every week like the current Chelsea crop will have. It just can't be good.

Had a discussion with a deluded chav fan (used to support Barca in the 1990s) who justified Mourinho's attitude towards Mata because he "does not work hard enough" I had to remind him that he was voted player of the year for last 2 years and would get into any prem team. :ross:

Mourinho's attitude to Mata really is insane. The guy has been about the best player in the league for the past 2 seasons...Jose will turn them into a dull, functional battering ram of a team again, then Roman will remember why he fired him last time and get rid....

I agree. I think you can clearly see that with Lukaku already - I don't doubt they would've wanted him to stay pretty badly, but he was determined to go out on loan again for game time. Even Marin is determined not to return to Chelsea, while Mourinho's handling of Mata doesn't bode well for others and for squad harmony.

I'd actually like to see them attempt to stick all their big/expensive names - Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Schurrle, KdB or Willian, etc - in the same first XI, because they'd be ridiculously unbalanced. I don't think it's good at all for a team to be made up of galacticos or promising starlets - for me it's more about having the right players, a balance of modest hard-working team players, a few 'sublime' stars, and talented and hungry youth. Dortmund are really the blueprint I'd love us to emulate, albeit we are in a much tougher and harsher league.

I don't think we are all as okay with the bench as you say we are (see: Rose, Defoe), *but* we do seem to focus quite a bit on attitude when scouting, and most of their transfer fees and reputations are not massive enough to put any pressure on AVB to play them all the time. We don't have a Rooney or Mata that everyone will excoriate us for if they're left out for one game. AVB also comes across as a lot less self-obsessed than Mourinho, so he doesn't come out with bizarre statements in the media to push himself up at his players' expense.

Wow!

Just got in and Chelsea beaten. Again. Some really strange stuff going on there. Mata not 1st choice, Ba offered to Arsenal (confirmed by player,) Lukaku loaned..I would bet my house that Jose had no idea about the Willian transfer until it happened..could be the wheel is wobbling on the barrow.

Arsenal won away again. I read that is a record number of consecutive wins.

United won easy last night but I am not convinced by them still.

Gonna be an interesting season.

Rafa:

Chelsea 8-0 Villa
Man Utd 0-1 Chelsea
Everton 1-2 Chelsea
Chelsea 3-1 Basel

Jose:

Chelsea 2-1 Villa
Man Utd 0-0 Chelsea
Everton 1-0 Chelsea
Chelsea 1-2 Basel

leaving Real to join Chelsea was the first step down in management for Mourinho....Porto to Chels, Chels to Inter, Inter to Real, always onto a bigger club.

im sure he feels the difference. He doesnt appear to be as hungry and motivated. Probably he wanted the Man Utd job after Real, that would have been more sideways than a stepdown

Also, going back to a club where he has already managed and been successful. Its never the same second time round.

2 years max and he is gone

So much talent in the squad, proven winner for a manager, and an owner with too much money. All the ingredients are there for chavs to dominate Europe for a while. Can't be written off but would love for them to be taken down a few pegs.

Doesn't always work that way does it?

Someone had commented that Mourinho might be surprised this time around, different PL, issues of going back, lot of his favorites are now past their prime ...

I don't think Mourinho will get the same easy ride in the media this time around, either. A few years older now, more salt than pepper in his hair and starting to put on a little bit of pudd'n, when the results don't go his way and the arrogance turns to petulance, the knives will come out.

I think Jose is emotionally burned out. He's been a long time now in high pressure jobs one after the other, and each one seems to have involved a lot of personalised, emotional battles along the way. Bound to take a toll.

He also seems a bit of a self-parody these days, second-guessing how his persona should come across rather than letting his natural personality come through. It all seems a bit scripted these days.

I like Jose and hate seeing him at that club and seeming in a bit of an emotional pickle, but there it is.

What the story behind that outburst?

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/champions-league-juergen-klopp-apologises-for-wild-rant-at-fourth-official-as-borussia-dortmund-lose-to-napoli-8826069.html

Klopp saw most of his team's game from a stadium TV after he was sent off in the 30th minute for an angry outburst at the fourth official following Napoli's opening goal.

Klopp was furious with the fourth official for not letting defender Neven Subotic back onto the pitch sooner after an injury break, allowing Napoli to score in the process.

I think it was one of those where Subotic had to wait on the sideline after receiving treatment, Napoli scored from a cross as he was hurrying back into the box and their back 4 looked disorganized at best. He also apparently sarcastically applauded the ref and that might have been part of it although I assume the reaction above was the main point :)

Worth mentioning that he apologized afterwards and as far as I know didn't make any excuses for himself.
