Even Nuno got 2 years. Is Levy still hankering after Poch returning?
I don’t see Conte taking the job for such a short term.
And more worryingly it smacks of us still not having a strategy (unless it’s to bring Poch back which isn’t really a strategy).
I’m going for not true.

I think people are getting a bit hung up on the contract length here.

Contracts are allowed to get extended. What’s the point of having him on a 5 year deal,he’s not a project manger to date? Conte has to show us he can work with Levy etc and Levy has to prove to Conte he can match his demands. Plenty of short term contracts have been extended if things go well…..

I’m not hung up about it, just saying whatever the fictional contract is it would be would be more down to his demands as we need him a lot more than he needs us.

i think the revolving door nature of the job is we will see more shorter initial contracts across the board though, maybe with triggered extensions based on results as you suggest.

I wasn’t referring you, there is a few questioning the length. I agree, in modern football you seldom see a coach doing 5 years anymore so shorter term ones make sense. Other than say if Poch came back give him a long term one as a statement that he has the keys to Tottenham….

CB.... Romagnoli from AC Milan (left sided, captain type, good on the ball)... Out of contract in the Summer. Pre-contract deal in Jan and then give Milan some money (£10m?) to bring that forward.
Box to box ball playing midfielder - Kessie also from AC Milan.... Another who is out of contract in the Summer and looks tailor made for English football.
Back up CF... Belotti from Torino... A third player out of contract in the summer.

With an Italian manager and an Italian DoF, it should be entirely possible to bring those players in and they would cost nowhere near £120m in fees and the three of them would make us better. They would mean a big hike to the wage bill however so will need our chairman to up the wage budget to something that is closer to that of the ambitious clubs.

Nuno

Take out the caretakers and Sherwood (who was never going to be long term, despite whatever contract he was on) and you've got Hoddle, Santini, Jol, Ramos, Redknapp, AVB, Poch, Mourinho and Nuno. That's 9 in 20 years, which ain't bad considering. Nuno will go down as another Santini, Ramos, or Sherwood. Hopefully that means our next coach is more like Jol, Redknapp, or Poch!
