The new, new manager thread - Pt 3

Some very good stuff in there.

I’ll lay my cards on the table – I instinctively like Pochettino. His Southampton side were, alongside Liverpool, the team I most enjoyed watching last season; playing high-tempo attacking football within a clearly well-defined system. More importantly, I like him because his appearance resembles a hard-ass Detective in an 80s cop show; streetwise and prepared to play outside the rules, but carrying the weary demeanour of a man constantly battling to get results without the DA busting his balls.

Funny

Who: The Goat
When: 26th May
Where: SC

We've been told that Poch is "all sorted contract-wise" and we're just finalising terms with Southampton.

It'll be a 3 year deal with a further 1 year option. He'll also bring in 3/4 of his backroom staff.

The article is really doing the rounds on social media now. Very well written. In general Bankrupt is an excellent twitter account regarding all things Spurs.

Wonder if he'll start speaking English to the media now, somewhat bigger spotlight at spurs...

If he is indeed our new manager of course ;)

I've read a number of articles which have stated that he speaks excellent English. Though that does beg the question why he has bothered to persist with a translator.

Clip on YouTube of him at this years SCBC player awards, answers in decent English and the translator is along side him as if it's one big running joke amongst people at the club.

Been speculated quite reasonably that it has made it easier for him to deal with the press.

Interesting. Thanks for posting.

Makes sense I suppose, though if he does join us, I can imagine that Levy will expect him to start speaking to the press directly, particularly if there is no good reason (language impediment) why he can't.

i m not sure why Levy would impress on him the need to speak to the press if it's something the man doesn't like doing/see's a reason not to do.

Has been reported in the press that we'll want him to talk to the press directly if we sign him. Makes sense to me.

It becomes somewhat ridiculous when everyone knows that his English is fine to continue speaking through an interpreter. I think the press would eventually start ridiculing him for it and I'm guessing that even if he stays at Southampton he'll stop using his interpreter sooner or later, most likely sooner.

Bigger club, more press attention, fan interest etc.

I just get the impression , that Levy quite likes someone who is apt at being a good 'front man' for the club - someone who looks and sounds the part, whilst towing the company line.

Yep, agree. And I can imagine that it would eventually be spun into him not having the courage to face press scrutiny. Particularly if we're going through a sticky patch.

Which has been who in the past? Poss Jol.. I would say it was a major weakness in pretty much all of them..
