The new, new manager thread - Pt 3

I was listening to some journos on talksport and seemed to think there might be some truth in the Poch staying at Saints story from this morning because the journo who wrote the story has very good contacts at Southampton

He ain't coming here...get it out your head mate and don't be fooled by all these posts saying he's here.

James Ward-Prowse:

"It would be a major blow to lose him - all the players love him.

"He has played me out of position on the right, so I've had to adapt. I've had to work on my game going forward - an area I needed to improve.

"Having done that, he has added another string to my bow. I feel I can now play in a number of different positions but he has not only helped me technically, he's helped me physically.

"I'm the fittest I've ever been in terms of the running he makes us do. We do two or three gym sessions a week that involve a lot of running and running with resistance.

"He demands a lot from us, and it is hard work, but it has been proved to work. None of us want to see him go. He is a fantastic manager and he has done really well."

Hahaha lots of running???running with resistance????hard work?????I'd love to see how long he gets away with that if he comes to Spurs :)

hopefully he'd be brave and **** off anyone not willing to learn something new in a job that pays them millions.

But running like a maniac in training is not really something new to learn. Unfortunately its easier to implement hard physical training at smaller clubs with younger unknown hungry players, but as Moyes found found out when he stepped up the better players at bigger clubs are not so receptive to such regimes.

Full tweet is this one, right?

Mauricio Pochettino is close to signing a three year contract at Tottenham Hotspur according to @SportsTonightTV. #THFC

Anyone know anything about SportsTonightTV as a source? Never heard of them myself, looking at their twitter feed it doesn't look like a great source.

HotspurRelated also reteweeted this from Dan Brett (Tea Junkie, Biscuit Dunky guy)

Had heard, very confidently that Pochettino was set to stay at Southampton, but Spurs' pursuit has been telling across the last week.

That's someone that was reported to be fairly well informed on Southampton news, right?

Have there been reports that the training intensity was the problem for Moyes at United?

I don't really see how what Ward-Prowse says can be accurately summed up as "running like a maniac in training" either by the way. And in terms of league position and size of club we're a lot closer to Everton than Ferguson's United.

Tommy "K" Huddlestone must be having a good old chuckle right now

Huddlestone was made into a proper Premier League footballer partly by the fitness regime under Ramos. He came out the other side of that looking fitter, slimmer and a touch more mobile.

19 of the 24 UK bookmakers (including William Hill and Ladbrookes) have suspended betting on our next permanent manager tonight.

Could be an announcement imminent?

Apparently FDB was unimpressed that he was going up against other coaches for the job (so I read online on the express website IIRC). They seem to think that within the last week we have interviewed him as well as Mancini and are close to making an announcement in the next 48 hours. It's strange we haven't heard a thing about FDB or Mancini though, makes me again wonder why we have heard so much about Poch (even prior to the security image).

SC guys are saying it is common for bookies to suspend betting on next managers overnight, should be an open market tomorrow morning, if it isn't then maybe we can expect something.

I do remember betting being suspended on Sessegnon joinig us numerous times one summer.

Well everybody else seems to be doing it so I may as well jump on board 'so and so says it's a done deal train'. On the Harry Hotspur Blog, a poster calling himself Darren Lake (about a third of the way down the comments section), reckons he got a source at Southampton. His comment:

"Pochettino I’m told is 100% done and we will announce it this week. I don’t get in the know but I live near southampton and get told some really good stuff from that end. It’s a case of settling the compensation with saints, he intends on bringing his whole support team."

Goes on to say:

"he’s agreed to come 3 year deal worth around £10.5 million."

I don't know this bloke from Adam of course, just some random poster on a blog as far as I can tell, but talk of 'done deals' and 'three year contracts' does appear to gathering pace.

I've never noticed that before. And I've been watching them a lot recently (mainly at night), hoping that Poch's odds will go out far enough that it'll be worth chucking a wad on him (but they never have).

It's also not just Poch they've suspended them on - it's all candidates.

It's unusual to me, just reiterating what some guy on another forum said. As I do not gamble I have no idea how it all works

If that's true we're progressively saving wages on managers.

Redknapp was on £5m pa, AVB £4m pa, and this is £3.5m pa.
