Pretty difficult when you can only buy Basque players. It's a challenge for any manager. Give Bielsa a fullly fledged attacking side reminiscent of his Chilean team, you'll get hard work, passion, exciting attacking football and pressing that would keep Barca on their toes.

Bilbao is right for his philosophy now, smaller team, bunch of hard working players prepared t follow the manager's wishes.. If he does well then maybe Barca or Real will await him. Spain is perfect for his footballing ideas.

England? im not so sure. Plus of course the language/cultural barrier

He would fail in the EPL....unless he speaks perfect English and has a huge budget to spend.

We don't have the patience or sophistication in this country to accomodate foreign coaches.

Love it that English teams are getting dingdonged.

Love the fact we'll all be out of europe by the end of March.

Love the EPL 'project' is coming off the rails.

Love that the english league is actually egtting more competitive.

Love that clubs like Rangers are going to the wall

Hope that this will translate into lower wages, fees, and ticket prices

fudge Sky, fudge mercenary players, fudgerip off tickets and beer and pies, fudge it all.

=D>

Well done to Bilbao. Any team who can beat ManU away deserves due credit. How annoying it is to see all the teams in the world can beat ManU except us.

Its almost as if english teams are getting less competitive in europe. Is it due to a drop in standards? It does astound me how City are having a fairly flawless league campaign and brushing teams aside with ease yet are getting mauled on the continent, I can't figure it out

yep, even Blackburn managed to come away form OT with 3 points this season

Man U have been poor in europe this season at home. lost last night, lost against Ajax, drew against Basel iirc, Benfica a draw too??

I think the way English teams play isn't suited to European football, we are too open.

It means the EPL is the most entertaining league, but Serie A is better suited to European football.

They haven't been putting out their strongest team in Europe is one of the reasons, and I'm not sure they are overly bothered about the Europa league anyway. I imagine they see it in the Carling cup bracket.

In saying that what's not to like about ManU getting dingdonged at their own place.

Before the Man U game there was a Man U player, can't remember if it was Jones or Evans or someone like that, saying they were hoping for a comfortable (or was it convincing?) win

Anyway, they didn't only want to win away from home at the 3rd place team, they wanted to do it fully and properly and beyond doubt

Whereas we go in hoping to snatch it and hold on whilst being banged from behind

Great display from Napoli tonight against Cagliari, 5-1 up with twenty minutes to go. Hope they play this well against Chelsea! My man Lavezzi ran the show until he went off on the hour mark. Poor Cagliari though, they see the back of Lavezzi only to have Cavani replace him :)

ManU have always been shyte in Europe. But they always get lucky by being drawn against shyte teams. Their CL win in 1999 and 2008 was a fluke as they were helped by Bayern Munich and Terry fecking up at crucial moments. Just imagine, we have not won any European trophy for 28 years while ManU have been in Europe for the past 20 years or so but they have won only 2 trophies more than us. Wish we are still in Europa League. Looking at our faltering league campaign, we should have taken the EL seriously.

Bit disrespectful to the Juventus', Inter Milan's, Barcelona's etc. that they have beat to get to those finals, at the end of the day if you haven't got luck you won't win anything. Plus I think I'd rather Champions League trophies in our cabinet then UEFA Cup's..

Doesn't matter how great they are, Italian teams are always shyte against English teams. So beating Italian teams should be a routine for English teams. I think everyone would prefer to win CL than UEFA. But what can we do when we have only played once in EC/CL in the last 50 years. Personally, I didn't want us to play in CL until we have won the PL title.

look at arsenal. 14 consecutive CL campaigns have resulted in 1 final and 2 other semi finals. absolutely woeful for a team from one of the major leagues. it would be hard to be that bad if you were trying.

Think i'll check out Bolton v QPR in a bit, check out out opponents for next week. Although I'm still expecting them to make changes with the big midweek game in mind at Villa

I think Bolton and Blackburn will do the business today and get themselves out of trouble, but nothing ever goes as you think in football.
