I haven't seen those teams play in those times, but if they were to play each other in their prime, who do you think would come out on top?

The game is at a total different level now than it was in the 50's or the 70's, so I think Barcelona would come out on top 8 (maybe 9) out of 10 times.

I would argue Madrid's legendary 50's side and Ajax Amsterdam circa 1994-5 were pretty close

I'm not sure they were as successful as Barca now, but I adored watching the Madrid team of the early 'noughties' with Ronaldo, Raul, Zidane, Figo, Guti etc

From what I can make out of article, when asked about Van Persie and Bale

"Those players are very good, but we always need common sense in any negotiations," said Bartomeu. "We will not enter the madness market but it is impossible for Barcelona to pay 40 or 50 million Euros for any player.

"This is a decision of the club. We can't fight against every club. But we have an advantage in that players want to come and play for Barcelona."

The slimy bastards are starting their work already

I like watching Barcelona play, it's just beautiful art, but I agree their transfer dealings are slimy. The fact that Barca refuse to pay 40 or 50 million euros for a player should actually increase our chances of keeping Bale. Will Levy give away Bale on the cheap because he wants to play for the spanish giants? HEEEEEEEELL NOOOOOO! It doesn't matter how unsettled he gets, unless clubs pay up we don't sell. I honestly can't see any club that's willing to pay what he's worth outside Real (and possibly Barca), because I sure as hell hope we won't sell within England and that he doesn't want to join another premiership club.

Rangers re-name their stadium

Rangers are going to rename their stadium to the Inland Revenue Arena - IRA
This, however, is provisional.

I don't think Barcelona are any worse than us in the transfer market. They use their position and pull to get the best deals possible. No different from us pressuring West Ham into selling Parker on the cheap by waiting until the last minute when Parker insisted he wanted to move. Or when we used our position to lever Palacios from Wigan even though they didn't want to sell.

They make comments in the press about players they might want to sign in the future, no different from Harry commenting on how great this or that player is.

Ronaldo makes it 1 - 0 against CSKA Moscow after some brick defending. Good finish, quite a good player.

Doumbia looks pretty good, has that livewire pace thing going on but will have to be clinical with any chances he gets today.

Whelan said they were willing to sell Palacios at the right price. The only team that used underhand tactics in that particular transfer were Emirates Marketing Project who had no interest in Palacios but still bid knowing he favoured staying up North. All that just because we wanted Bellamy (who favoured a switch to us over City). City say they drop out of Palacios deal if we give them a clear passage to Bellamy which we agree.

Bring it the fudge on

"Ahead of their clash with Chelsea in the Champions League, Napoli have opened the door for summer bids from the Premier League for star names Ezequiel Lavezzi, Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik."
:-k

Chelsea XI: Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Luiz, Bosingwa, Meireles, Ramires, Malouda, Mata, Drogba, Sturridge

Chelsea subs v Napoli: Turnbull, Cole, Torres, Kalou, Lampard, Mikel, Essien

Wonder if AVB will stick with the players he wants and trusts for the rest of the season.

Gary Neville said they have been hearing rumours all afternoon about major dressing room discontent

Its showed in his team selection, I mean seriously dropping Ashley Cole for either Bosingwa or Luiz on the left, thats laughable
