The Goon Thread

Seen a couple of comments on X questioning how much Vinai would have known. As he didn’t leave them until end of 2023/24 season he must have been fully aware, as CEO, of what was going on.
Not a good look.

Edit - I mean about the situation in general and the club decision to keep playing him whilst the investigation was ongoing. He must have been involved in that decision.

I’m not sure you can blame a club in this scenario. What if the player is found totally innocent?

…almost like someone was waiting for him to leave the goons before pressing the button. For it to take 3 years+ to put a case together is shameful. You take statements. You present the argument…. Should take a week.

Not sure I understand. It's the club who decided to carry on playing him during the investigations. He could have been suspended on full pay (or 'given time to focus on personal issues'). Vinai was leading the club at that time so would have been involved in the decision - hence me saying it is not a good look.
I don't think there are many companies that would have someone under those accusations coming into work everyday. You can argue whether that is fair or not but it's the way things would usually happen.
I do have sympathy for those who are the subject of malign allegations, but from the messages posted by his first victim, that does not appear to be the case.

Former head of the CPS, who is now PM is a gooner ST holder. Nothing to see here...
It certainly appears fishy. One thing is the allegations, but if he had been charged while still an Arse player, it would've been infinitely much harder for them to keep playing him. They'd basically have to choose between bad publicity and weakening the team. Very odd timing.

Doesn't say a lot about Arteta and the players either. They should've been kicking up about having to play with an "alleged" rapist.

An Arsenal spokesman said: "The player's contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case."

Not our player anymore so we won’t comment. You shielded this clam for three and a half years to try (and fail) to achieve success. Shame on you and your absolute clam of a club.

With allegations this serious, from 3 different women, with an investigation that has been taking place for nearly 4 years, he should be nowhere near the first team imho. The PL's big campaign at the moment? Ironically "Tackling violence against women and girls."

I agree that they can't sack him unless he is convicted, but Arsenal are an international brand with a top class women's football team too and can choose to let him play or not while he is under investigation. I'm sure the way this has been handled is going to hurt the club as I doubt they will have heard the last of it.

As if there were not already enough reasons to dislike Arteta and that club.

Were there any 'best wishes' messages from players after it was announced he was leaving? Im guessing they are strangely quiet.

Based on recent history, I'm guessing he's as innocent as all those other footballers with fantastic lawyers.

I hope he's saved his pennies, as these "victims" seem to like out of court settlements nowadays.

Just saying.
