They brought the charges because he's out of contract. If he left the country it's not a big enough crime, not enough evidence to extradite him. They've had to bring the case forward with what the have as they have no choice.
It actual benefits him as if he had stayed the case would have had longer to be made watertight, but they have had to go with the evidence the have so far, before he leaves.
Why couldn't the charges be brought when he was under contract, say 6 months or a year ago?
Why have charges only been brought now he's no longer under contract?
