The Goon Thread

The likes of Chelsea and Arsenal are laughing because of our "run in" and that we will drop points to the likes of Stoke, City, Chelsea, Liverpool etc. but what I don't understand is, them two teams too also have to pick up points when we drop. This is coming from fans of two teams that have lost/dropped points to the likes of Bradford, Blackburn, Swansea, Norwich, Southampton, Aston Villa, West Brom etc.

We are the team that are 12 games unbeaten, we are the team in form. They should be focusing on there own team instead of waiting for US to slip. At the end of the day we won't win the rest of the games, but we have arguably a 3 game cushion on 5th place, it means Arsenal have to make sure they win 3 when we lose 3, at the moment as the league and form shows, they are much more likely to drop points than we are.

We have Liverpool (A) and Fulham (H) our next two games. Recent years show we should win both or atleast get 4 points from the 2 games. Arsenal have Swansea (A) which recent form shows they shouldn't even win and then Everton at (H) a team in the same hunt for them, they should focus on them two as opposed to seeing if we drop points.

Everton are just the kind of team that Arsenal will struggle against (hopefully). Defensively solid, organised, stronger and more motivated - I can see Everton getting something out of that match.

I agree. They won't be able to handle the strength of Fellaini, the pace and trickery of Miralles, Pienaar and Osman always cause them problems too. Set Pieces in my opinion can damage Arsenal and Everton seem to be good at them, Baines' delivery and Fellaini and Jagielkas aerial presence etc.

Lets hope Arsenal defend like they did yesterday because if they do it won't look good. Everton done well against Arsenal away last year but a moment of magic from RVP won it for Arsenal, it's what they don't have this year.

Think winning both would be an amazin achievement given that they are packaged around the Inter games.

Personally I think our big advantage comes in the final 3 games when all three opponents will have nothing to play for whereas Arse in their last 4 have Utd at home, who could seal the title taht day and will want to beat Arse any way, they have QPR away and finish away at Saudi Sportswashing Machine

My concern is that Arse could narrow the gap by mid April given that between now and then they have Reading and Norwich at home and Swansea and West Brom away (neither of whom are push overs but are beat-able)

Arse have Swansea then Reading then West Brom then Norwich and then Everton (according to the BBC website that is)

Ah yes, you are correct. Got me mixed up as they were due Everton this week but it got re-arranged due to the FA Cup. Fact still remains though that we play before any of our rivals and have a superb chance to put pressure on City and go further ahead of everyone below us with a result at Liverpool.

Reading should be a routine win for Arsenal in my opinion. But we have Fulham then don't we? Which should be 3 points in the bag.

I'd take a draw at Liverpool if you offered it now. A win would be massive, absolutely massive. Huge. Enormous.

Arsenal fans really make me sick

The amount of them turning on Wenger and going on like they can't even be bothered to watch their team anymore or they give up on football etc

Try being a spurs fan for the last 25 years mate

Arsenal fans under the age of 35 have never had it as bad as we have, they've seen their club win almost everything and even now at their lowest point they're on a par with us at our highest (in that time frame)

fudge off little cry baby gooners, if you can't handle the bad times supporting your club you don't deserve the good times

I hope so much they sink into midtable and have to watch us competing at the top end for the next 15 years like we had to witness them, see if they have the stomach to support their club with the passion we have through thick and thin since the 90s

I hope their owner asset-strips them and the club ceases to exist.

Then some fat gingers can start 'The Real Arsenal AFC' in Woolwich and they can have everyone's respect back.

Slighty OT but I'm hoping for an Everton win this weekend. We will then be playing them at home the weekend before the FA Cup semi-final, could be a big help

Watched the game in the pub yesterday and there was a Gooner there I wanted to smack so f**king hard.

Once we scored it was:

"This lot will bottle it like they always do".

Then, "Sure they had to beat us at some stage, they haven't since 1995".

Then, "Look at them celebrating like it's their cup final."

I bit my tongue as I was there with my missus and son and didn't even acknowledge the bastard.

At the end, he came up and shook hands and said well done. Turns out he was just trying to get a reaction for bricks and giggles because he could see I was a heart attack waiting to happen. He was very impressed with AVB too. Turns out that not all Arsenal fans are (complete) c**ts.

nice one there. good poignant story. the football adage that goes "whatever happens on the pitch stays on the pitch", should apply to fans/spectators as well.

Were the 'negative spiral' comments mind games from AVB?

Im not so sure...its being painted as such, or as over-confidence, but it felt to me like an honest assessment of the importance of the fixture, related to last year. 'Last year they beat us and we crumbled, this year maybe we've done the same to them, things like that can happen in football'. I can see the mind games idea in relation to our own squad tho. Given the run we've got, i think says to our players exactly why beating the teams around you can help your cause so much...a win at anfield, for instance, would deflate Liverpool hopes catching the teams above them, which makes our own position that little bit more secure. Rather than worrying about teams chasing us down, as they did last season, we can concentrate on our own game, and giving THEM something to worry about.

still quite some 10 games to go, but the hard truth is that our fate is in our hands!
i'm looking back at qpr and norwich and also both Man U games... gives me hope that we do well against the better clubs, and also away.
with our form we should be looking to win all 10 remaining matches.

They've only lost 1 out of their last 7 in the league IIRC, hardly a downward spiral. Don't get me wrong, this win is massive for us and could potentially deflate them in turn, but I would like to think everyone at the club has learnt their lesson from last season and will keep their gobs shut when it comes to Arsenal until it's hopefully done and dusted.

I'm not one for predicting how each game will go as it never goes to plan for the most part, but I think 5 wins and 3 draws should be enough to finish ahead of them. That would mean they would 7 wins and a draw or 8 wins, I can't see them doing that to be honest, tempting fate I know, but they don't have that one player who can single handedly win them every game. I refuse to say we will finish above them, but it's ours to fudge up.

I think this is where all of their "one man team" hatred for us comes from. Theyre very aware that they had a player last season who could do that for them, so theyre scared that it might have a similar good effect on us. I think the talk of finishing above Arsenal is all a bit distracting...we're two point ahead of Chelsea, yet there's been little talk of whether we can finish above them. let's just concentrate on finishing as high as well possibly can, I really couldnt give two hoots about Arsenal or what they do at the moment. Every time we mention their name I can imagine them gettin a little Digimon type energy/motivation boost

I agree we shouldn't focus solely on Arsenal, but we didn't blow a big lead on Chelsea last season, we finished above them. Plus most Spurs fans see Chelsea as the better team and the team more likely to get 3rd ahead of us so it could be between us and Arsenal for the 4th spot. There must be a feeling of we can't keep letting Arsenal off the hook also, eventually you've got to think they will get their act together. And btw, it was THEIR keeper last season who said "our goal is to finish above Spurs", but the media tend to not focus on that.

I'd completely forgotten about that. I take back what i said. I hate that guy with a passion.

Arsenal goal each season as a minmum is to finish above Spurs; if we finish above them this year AND we finish in the top whilst they don't beleive me they'll be topping themselves en masse; that or the pressure around Wenger and the players will become unbearable.

They also haven't got any golden eggs left to cash in on, so they'd be forced to overspend just to get back into the CL.

Huge last 10 games now and some ex-Spurs managers could have a huge bearing....:-"

This season could be a turning point for the foreseaable future. We can pull away from them whilst they languish like how we did.
