The Goon Thread

Someone on Arse Mania took the bother of compiling their results in big games this season:

A: ManC 1-1
H: Chelsea 1-2
H: Schalke 0-2
A: MU 1-2
A: Schalke 2-2
H: Spurs 5-2 (against 10 men)
H: ManC 0-2
A: Chelsea 1-2
H: Bayern 1-3
A: Spurs 1-2

Watched the game in the pub yesterday and there was a Gooner there I wanted to smack so f**king hard.

Once we scored it was:

"This lot will bottle it like they always do".

Then, "Sure they had to beat us at some stage, they haven't since 1995".

Then, "Look at them celebrating like it's their cup final."

I bit my tongue as I was there with my missus and son and didn't even acknowledge the bastard.

At the end, he came up and shook hands and said well done. Turns out he was just trying to get a reaction for bricks and giggles because he could see I was a heart attack waiting to happen. He was very impressed with AVB too. Turns out that not all Arsenal fans are (complete) c**ts.

This. I celebrated the win in the pub last night but I'm not going to tempt fate and gloat properly until it's mathematically impossible for them to overhaul us in the Premiership after what happened last season... and lasagne-gate... :-#

Indeed. I'm hoping both catastrophes were all one long drawn out plan from the football gods to get AVB in the Spurs job and create a footballing dynasty.... Coys

didnt think they played too badly yesterday.....passed and moved far better than we did

until its mathematically impossible for them to finish above us I will resist in having a good ol' belly laugh

can we laugh really hard now? at least for a few days?

I'm laughing at them - it's part of my role as a Spurs fan the way I see it.

Even when they were 'invincible' and we were brick they were still ****s. We could get relegated and they'd still hear me chuckling.

Fair enough but you can pass and move as much as you want in areas of the pitch that wont hurt the opposition, for all their possession they created very little.

I had similar thoughts about the game

- initially I thought, wow, they are a pretty decent side, with some defensive issues that let them down

Then I remembered, this is exactly the same problem they have had for the past 4+ seasons, lots of neat not threatening passing and possession. The real question is how many true goal scoring opportunities did they create yesterday? (not from set pieces) 1?

We had the early ball Bale just missed pulling down, the two goals, the Bale miss, Siggy chance, and JD's shot, that's at least 6 very real opportunities.

Previously, when they had players like Nasri and Fabregas (along with Rosicky in his prime), they could get away with that tippy tappy stuff and still beat most teams comfortably. Last season, they weren't able to do that as consistently, especially with the addition of players like Mertesacker to the squad. However, they had RVP to bail them out - you could hit him with literally any kind of ball and there would be a decent chance that in one touch he would have directed it past the keeper. Now, especially with Wheelchair playing as #10 instead of Cazorla as was the case yesterday, they have neither the penetrative passing nor a superstar talent to bail them out.

The gradual decline continues...

hopefully it declines more

I have a yearly bet with an Arsenal friend, who finishes higher

finally it´s my turn!!!!

Allowed myself a chuckle at their plight. Nothing more just yet. That comes when we consistently finish above them, win the premiership and in the champs league year on year. It's good to beat them at the lane but in light of the bigger picture it's a small victory.

Want to tinkle myself laughing at them but know that 7 points is fudge all. Couple of defeats and we are well and truly back within range for them.

Let's not be stupid about this. Let's go and actually achieve something and then laugh at the f**kers.

The likes of Chelsea and Arsenal are laughing because of our "run in" and that we will drop points to the likes of Stoke, City, Chelsea, Liverpool etc. but what I don't understand is, them two teams too also have to pick up points when we drop. This is coming from fans of two teams that have lost/dropped points to the likes of Bradford, Blackburn, Swansea, Norwich, Southampton, Aston Villa, West Brom etc.

We are the team that are 12 games unbeaten, we are the team in form. They should be focusing on there own team instead of waiting for US to slip. At the end of the day we won't win the rest of the games, but we have arguably a 3 game cushion on 5th place, it means Arsenal have to make sure they win 3 when we lose 3, at the moment as the league and form shows, they are much more likely to drop points than we are.

We have Liverpool (A) and Fulham (H) our next two games. Recent years show we should win both or atleast get 4 points from the 2 games. Arsenal have Swansea (A) which recent form shows they shouldn't even win and then Everton at (H) a team in the same hunt for them, they should focus on them two as opposed to seeing if we drop points.

Yep. He who laughs last laughs longest.
