The Cricket Thread

This thread is a lot quieter when we are doing poorly :D

I just don't think our bowlers are that good to be honest, all too often we rely on Stokes to pull something out of the bag....

Yeah. The Aussies are good and so are we. However I think they've approached the game with ideas that have worked. The fielding tactics from Smith were unusual but ultimately effective.

Also they are at home. Few of our players have never seen the pink ball before. And it's The Ashes.

We lost balance with the bowling, one less seamer so harder to break this innings down.

Making a good fist of it with those wickets though

One of the kids teams I coach uses a pink ball which is a similar make up to the one they're using in Australia. (At least, much nearer that than a Dukes ball).

It's horrible to try and get it to do anything. They don't swing properly, they don't seem properly - that's why everyone's using the scramble seam delivery.

Looks like the pitch might start doing something though. I heard TMS talking about Stokes looking for a crack (phrasing) in day 2 session 3.

The pink ball night day thing is an abomination anyway. Don't mess with test cricket

I am actually ok with the day night thing, can't remember the history of the ball though, does it need to be pink?

Yeah. One thing you have to say with cricket. The changes are well researched. There is legit intelligent people behind the scenes who love the sport. Duckworth Lewis for example. It's not perfect. Nor is a rained off match though. And it's stood the test of time. And if you get a chance to read the lengths they went to with it it's so interesting for any data nerd. And this was before machine learning.
