Also the other issue is that no one plays county English conditions as they are all now centrally contracted to play this unbelievable England fixture list that means they are playing week in week out.
My Aussie mate said that two weeks before we played Ashes the Aussies were all playing Shield cricket against each other so the openings facing 90mph international bowling from their own team mates. England players are resting because they pretty much now only commit to England schedule so they literally go into every series cold, despite playing a high volume of cricket.
I also think we have suffered from Roots "mates" dressing room where too many outstayed their welcome
People running cricket tell us Test cricket is important but do everything they can to ensure we find it difficult to produce players of that standard. Much rather play beer matches for the great unwashed and TV, while county sides go weeks without a game and starve them of players of quality. Geoff Boycott would score double hundreds with a stick of celery against the sub standard bowling in the county game.
