The Case for the Attacking play

El Dante

Les Ferdinand
Found guilty or non existent. Where is the attacking spark? Where is the attacking mentality? The only thing worse than losing against teams is when there’s so very little to show for it in terms of a positive performance.

If we give it our all, if we attack but fail to score, and lose as the opponents take their chances then that’s enough. But if our performance was the wolf’s breath against the three picks we would barely be capable of blowing down a house built of a leaf based on our performance.

There is no urgency. There is no quick play. It’s all too slow and back to the ‘turgid’ days of old.

Why are we so poor and so little lights in terms of sparks that I think we have had a power cut and the electricians are on strike.

careful what you wish for is what I get thrown at me
This is bad football though
It’s the same footy I’d expect a group of mates to come up with in the park
Frank has to be better than this
I reckon a group of mates in the park would at least get a few men ahead of the ball. This is horribly negative. The manager thinks he is still managing Brentford.

Say that loads but get told he has fixed last season issues
Not sure he has but hr has us defending so much he has us conceding less
TBF my 8 year old could organise the team to be more defensive but that isn’t a fix for me
Maybe my expectations that a team is balanced are wrong
Yes he has just joined but he has is back to such a basic way it’s like he didn’t see us play and think… what needs to change… instead he is back to playing basics and we are very very basic

In a sport with such fine margins your manager needs to realise that some things matter more
Games like today are just that and to to limp though it …
Hard to say how much is players when he has us set up like a Sunday league side and every home game

What attacking play?
I don’t want attacking play
I want a balance
We’re getting veg with no trimmings
My missus is a master of the Sunday roast but no cheese sauce is a failure
I expect it because she does it well… and I know that because historically she showed me that … that’s partly why I married her
If you show what good is… you can’t then just be brick an expect compliments

Instilling a better attacking play now will be really challenging. We'll keep having various injury problems, need for rotation, games coming quick and fast with little time on the training ground. And very few of our players have the confidence to pull it off right now. Left relying on Romero and Porro again.

It's weird the TF impact. If everyone stopped looking at xG and looked at clear cut chances the opposition had that we actually saw with their own eyes, would we say our defence is better Vs Ange? Luckier maybe. we should have conceded 4 goals at least just from clear cut chances 1on1 versus the keeper. That's a lot to give a way in one game. It was the same against Monaco, and Bodo, and Wolves, and Bournemouth.

I think it's naive of people to think it's all for mistakes. The more pragmatic you are with a team that is more comfortable attacking, the more mistakes you will see, which is what we are seeing at the moment.

When Romero came on yesterday, he got stuck in, was brave and turned a few Chelsea attackers and hit hard and precise floor balls to our attackers (who then did nothing), he also was the only one even remotely close to getting a shot off in the box.

You could see his mentality was different to the rest of the lot. He went in REALLY wanting to turn that match around. None of our other guys did that last night. No application across the board.

Getting some forwards who can control a ball and create will definitely help. I despair that we had Son and Kane not too long ago and now we have this dross. Worst collection of forwards we’ve had this century IMO. Struggling to think of worst forwards we’ve had in my lifetime.

There’s a genuine argument we have the worst forwards in the league, it’s at least bottom 5.

Muani in fairness hasn’t had much of a chance as of yet with injury.

Solanke seems to have joined the injury parade now, and hasn’t had much in the way of seasons where he’s high in the goals scored charts.

Richy has the odd purple patch but spends most of his time either on the floor, in the treatment room or with a ball bouncing off his first touch.

Johnson has a really helpful knack of popping up at the back post for goals but outside of that offers nigh on nothing to the teams general play.

Kudus seems our only player who can create something on his own but it’s feels like the burden is already weighing heavy as he seems to be double marked every week.

Tel, I’m just not seeing it.

Odobert clearly had some talent, but I think he’s been brought too high too early.

We used to have Kane, Son, Berbatov, Keane, Defoe… even Kanoute and Mido would offer more than this current lot.

Just don't think any sort of pragmatic manager will ever work at this club, it just doesn't fit with our fans or seemingly the players in the long run. Really hoping Frank can turn this around because right now what we are seeing is the concerns I expressed from the start.

As has been said already, he's not at Brentford this club is a different kettle of fish - from the expectations of the fans (and ultimately patience) to how teams will come and setup against us it is all so different. I hope Frank is a quick learner because otherwise this will not end up being pretty....

Yeah we've all said it, it's so obvious our forward need upgrading. But I'll also say this - had you given Ange Kudus,Muani, Xavi and Palhina to hold in the CM plus had our back 5 fit which other than Udogie we have had for the most part ( yes Anges methods partly to blame for that) I would 100 per cent rather watch Anges football than what we have seen this season.

This isn't to open debate on whether Ange should be here instead of Frank, we should all be supporting Frank right now. The point is this group of players could and should be playing better football than it has done. Being less open defensively is not an excuse for the football being served up right now....

Our forwards are just inconsistent as are our CM

I don't overly rate Sarr, he's Ok in everything he does but he's not going to take us to the next level

Bents is meh as is Bissouma.

We need a new set of forwards and CM

Not much to do.

Frank will give us structure not to lose every week and try and firm up the defence.
