Tanguy Ndombele

Agree. We as a club should have done more due diligence. Not pochs job though.
We may well have done.
It might just be that he's not happy here. Even rich sports stars can get a bit depressed.
Who knows?
He might go somewhere else and be fantastic.
It's a shame.

For me playing football was an escape from however I felt. Dont like your job change it.

I'd rather we kept trying. His potential is high enough to warrant it.

If we sell him now we get a fraction of our outlay back. If we keep him and get him to his potential, £60m will seem like pocket change.

He doesn't want to be here. Conte doesn't want him to be here. I say we cut our loses and move on. Think he may do well somewhere else, just not with us.

the pace of Serie A
This gets spewed out a lot in here, and I bet most of those who say it, don't watch Italian football and have no idea.
There is little difference in the pace of the game,or the intensity. I'd even go as far as to say that Serie A is just as physical as the PL. Certainly in the derby's. The recent derby's in the PL have hardly had a tackle! Not so in Italy!

Problem is none of our managers since he's been here have been able to realise that potential...which tells you something

And to try to get him match fit, he needs to play...but that means carrying him for 30 PL games per season where he doesnt show up. Conte won't accept that
I'm not letting their failure change my opinion of the player.

He's had those qualities before in order to perform at such a high level.

This is about application
And system. Ndombele would be better in 3-5-2 than 3-4-3. In a 3-4-3, his main qualities are not so easily utililised, but his weakness is more easily exposed. But in an advanced position in a midfield 5, he can utilise his main strengths, while his weakness is not so exposed.
Would be the same if you put Skipp in the same positions. He would not be very good as an ACM, but shines in a more defensive role.

While I think your logic makes sense, you need to consider that when Conte gives after match press conferences he tends to focus on "intensity", and that is the problem, Ndombele simply does not play with intensity, and why I feel his days are numbered. I would love time to prove me wrong because I think he is the most naturally gifted player in our first team squad.

Seems like he's done.

In many situations I would agree with a patient, keep trying approach.

Right now, we need space in the squad (non HG places), we need money for transfers/wages, and we need solutions that will work fairly quickly.

Make or break, fairly quick answers are needed. By all signs it's going to be break.

There have even been comments that he does warm up properly and that’s noticed On the bench
The guys playing for conte who was a fraction as talented as him but his talent never held him back as he worked harder than everyone and did what was asked
Tanguy learns that off him and he is a world beater. Tanguy doesn’t learn that and he is another very well paid talented player

I watch a reasonable amount of serie A and whilst I agree that its quicker and more physical than 10-20 years ago, its still slower than the PL and there are more easy games

Bringing it back to Ndombele, I don't see that its in our interest to continue with him in the hope that he does develop the desire and application to become a top player. The reason for that is that it really is largely 'hope' - he's shown little in his time at Spurs to suggest that he can bring the right sort of work-rate to his game. Shame, because his ability to beat a player with a drop of a shoulder and in small spaces is better than pretty much any other player in the PL

Remember that quote attributed to Einstein? Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different result. Kind of where we are with Ndombele - give him more and more chance under endless managers with the hope that he develops some drive and motivation. At some point you need to cut your losses

He needs a move for his own sake as he is wasting his time here sitting on the bench, he has had chances but he seems to lack the motivation to play in the Prem. I do not think anyone doubts the ability he has but he needs to show more and he can not say he has not been given the chances to do so.

Anyone else really surprised to see him come off the bench at half time yesterday?

Didn't do enough, but can't say that he was worse than some of the regular starters.

I thought the formation change was the biggest improvement at HT, rather than Ndombele, and actually had Dele or GLC come on in the no 10 role, the impact would like have been the same. The three of them are only here til we manage to offload them, rather than them having a future though, and nothing I saw last night would change that (he didnt do anything of note either)

I nabbed this from the match thread re my thoughts on Tanguy's input.

Tanguy was brought on but a couple of things. One he was played as the 1 rather than in CM. We went through this experiment with Jose, he's not an ACM or at least not a particularly good one. He needs to play deeper, he needs to be receiving lots of the ball. He needs to feel free to express himself.

Which leads into the second point, under Conte he noticibly doesn't even attempt to dribble. Under Poch and Jose he would always control first and then try and wiggle out of trouble. Often successfully but at times with abject failure that would put the defense under immediate pressure. Conte has spoken about him needing to understand how to play in a team manner and I think he has taken that onboard but it's hobbled his game. Without the dribbles he's half the player. He does have good passing but he isn't a pure passer, his passing is aligned to his ability to beat players earn space and then play it. If he's not going to dribble he really is pointless and needs be sold.

Taken all of the above into consideration our control and possession did improve immensely in the 2nd half with his introduction. It took a further level up with the subs of Gil and GLC. The better technical players are what you need in games against teams who also work hard but couple that with extremely high level technical players.
