I’ve thought the exact same thing. E.g. Against West Ham he had 62 passes, vs Hojbjerg’s 103.

Like other posters, I wondered if he’s just instructed to stay a bit higher up the pitch, so is less likely to get on the ball as much as Hojbjerg. But then I think of Modric, who was the more attacking of our CMs but still got on the ball more than his partner. I’d love it if Ndombele could be more like that, as he’s just so good when he gets it. But I wonder if it’s actually a stamina / work rate thing? Would be interesting to see stats on distance covered.
 
Positive article about Bale in the Guardian too, the press are shifting their narrative, can only mean good things.
 
I think the Guardian sports ed, Barry Glendingdong, dislikes - or at least disapproves - of Spurs. He's pals with Niall Quinn who has never uttered a kind word about Spurs.

Still undecided on what his best position is, though leaning towards the deeper role. Right now having both options is definitely a luxury, perhaps that's how it will remain for quite a while. Lo Celso coming back could give us that extra option you're talking about.

For now having him deeper changes so much to the better for us another attacker on the pitch and his work deep is excellent to me.

How do you guys rate him defensively now in that deeper role? We've been open at the back, but I'm not sure it's down to him. Some of his defensive involvements have been top notch imo.

We have been more open as were playing 2 rather than 3 in midfield now too, is that’s a big change
Also we can’t defend generally so it looks worse, especially wide (look at the improvement yesterday with proper full backs)
I think he has been fine defensively myself

Not that much of a difference between Ndombele's defensive work as a #10 and Lamela, Moura or whoever is there?

To me it mostly looked like Hojbjerg and Sissoko/Winks deeper with Ndombele clearly more advanced, not really like a traditional three man midfield.

But playing 2 capable and complimentary CMs is better than a 3 that didn’t work defensively at least
The comment about being more open maybe is misleading. West Ham had 4 shots to our 20. And we were chasing the game. Yesterday we had 17 I think to their 7 yet win comfortably. Mainly because we took chances and defender well, limiting them to difficult ones. That’s the key defensively IMO. Make the opposition have to do something clever not easy...

Agree. He has the ability to break the press with his dribbling, a skill that is in short supply in our midfield. Passing around the press is another option but not a forte of ours either. Without N'Dombele in there it eventually just results in a hoof when we run out of sideway/backward passes. Neither Winks nor Sissoko is progressive enough with their passing IMO.

Maybe when Lo Celso is back in contention then they can rotate position on occasion during the 90.
