The skill was insane. I loved it and it's the x factor he has. BUT... after that I would have loved to see him fit enough to continue his run and get to the box. Son's shot, from that angle, could have easily have been saved and put back into the box and if it had Ndombele wouldn't have been on hand to put it in. But the positives are good, and I'm really encouraged that we'll be seeing a lot of him over the next few weeks and months.

On their first goal I can see your point, looking at the goal again had he pressed with real intent probably the goal doesn't happen.
I don't see it as much in terms of valid criticism at this point though. I'm sure there were many instances of all of our midfielders defending in a similar way. KWP had barely crossed the half way line. As a team we don't frantically press in those situations, if Mourinho wants us to it's not being executed by anyone really.
We were organised in a fairly low block. It's up to our defenders to deal with balls over the top. Track runners, stay right side. That being said it took a very well weighted pass and a sublime first touch along with a very good finish to make it happen. Some blame to go around, very little to Ndombele, a lot of credit to KWP and Ings.

Ndom was fine yesterday’s and showed he can play passes and beat me as we know
What we don’t know is can he fight and defend yet

Also he should get better at knowing when to save energy, which coupled with match fitness could be great.
Hopefully can increase his game time as that's the only way we'll find out.

Usually it would be the left winger's job to pick up their direct opposing fullback. I'm not saying that was in the right here (I didn't actually see the game so have no opinion either way there) just wondering where Son was if KWP had lots of space, as you don't really want your midfield players having to go and close down opponents fullbacks in wide areas if you want your team to have a decent shape.
I did see a single clip that showed KWP's pass and then Ing's (very good) finish and my immediate reaction was what on earth was Dier doing?.... as that looked to me to be a pretty easy ball to cut out for a reasonable central defender.

I know this probably won't go down well but hey ho, son shouldn't have had to shoot from that angle, Harry's pass was too hard.
I agree the pass was too hard but 99% of players wouldn’t of had the presence of mind to see the run, know where the player was and hit the pass first time on his weaker foot. The pass wasn’t perfect but if he hadn’t of done what he did it’s doubtful they should have been opened up at all.....

I saw it more as, when the tank is low you have to learn how to use the accelerator sensibly.

It wasn’t easy but Dier should have done better (there’s a whole new CB thread in that)
But Tanguy and also Holdberg there showed the issue the midfield had in that first half
We had one in front of the other, in front of the other
Second half we had winks and Holdberg together and Lo Celso in front in a triangle. It worked much better, as low Celso pressed and won tackles, but also passed really well
Tanguy will get better with games but there the moments Jose will tell him he needs to improve on

Guess we could do with a water-carrier like Makelele or Kante who can shield the back line almost single handed allowIng Ndombele to conserve his energy for doing his thing with the ball.
Hopefully our fitness coaches can at least get him able to regularly complete 90 minutes by the end of this year (something he’s only managed 5 times since signing for Spurs) so we don’t have to keep substituting him before the hour mark; like van der Vaart.

This early in the season his touch is bound to be a bit rusty, but his vision is exceptional.

Two completely different players, though. Moussa was great at retaining the ball and getting us out of tight spots in our half to transition the game to our offense, but advanced us at a painfully slow pace and the offense still had a lot of work to do to create a chance. Tanguy just loses his marker and makes the killer pass that's either an assist or the assist to the assist.
