Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

African spurs I dont want to debate Friedl's contribution to our history but out of politeness I i reply...i repeat -
to suiggest that firedl remains in the sticks at the expense of a man with Lloris' credntials is ridiculous. ..oh ok you edited- no worries.........I can understand say an outfeld player maybe coming on as a sub in his first game or PERHAPS AVB kleeping Verts out of the St James park hotbed for his first game (ift hat was his intention to play him at WHL before Kaboul got injured)......but a keeper is different...Parlk lane James suggested we keep him on the bench for a "bedding in period" warming the bench watching friedl...I am sorry but to me this is nonsense.

what if Lloris has a dracula complex as well? maybe he isnt used to the physical nature of things over here. we give keepers a decent seeing to in the premiership.

I'm still lost as to what Loris is good at to be honest. but i can understand that you would be wow'ed by his credentials...i do the same things too, but i try not to

in all honesty if we spend millions on a goal keeper chances are that we want that asset to produce. obviously brad is on his way out.....but why are people so sure that lloris is going to be an instant success and that he will be THAT mucb better over brad

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

ufortuantely he has zero competion at present. However, you suggested we keep friedl as first chocie even when we have signed Lloris. I am sorry if you didnt like me laughing at that suggestion
Fair enough if you don't agree with it, but say why? Friedel knows the squad far better than Lloris does - and having a goalkeeper understand his defenders is vital to his performance on the field. I never suggested that he would be first choice for the whole season - it could be for another month or so.

Tell me why it's so laughable, please.

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

So this Lloris bloke. Is he any good?
Shame he is not a striker.

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

The best? Does that mean he is suited to us?

How is he at coming off of his line?Excellent. He knows when to 'time his runs' as it were. He has excellent timing and confidence in his ability to shot stop, or come out. As for on corners, free kicks etc - he again has confidence in his ability to clear the danger, he also knows when to leave it to the defense.
How is he with the ball at his feet?Good. Is he Valdes? No. Also, he isn't Gomes. He is competent.
What is his distribution like?Mostly good. His kicking has been known to be sporadic, but when good, it's very good. He is a good thrower of the ball, and is comfortable rolling the ball out/playing a short passing game from the back
Does he claim crosses reliably?Yes, but lets not forget even Casillas and VDS have been known to drop the ball on occasion.
Can he stand up to people bashing into him at corners and such?He thrives on this sort of pressure. He is a beast of a goalkeeper who loves nothing more than to win, be it the ball, the match or the penalty shootout.

All in all, I think he is an excellent goalkeeper. With the potential to be up there with Buffon, VDS, Cech etc.

The key question for me is, is there an element of goalkeeping at which Brad Friedel is better than Hugo Lloris? And if there is, I've never seen it.

(Finally, before people ask - I've seen maybe 20 France games over the past 3 years, having lived with a French lad. I've always watched somewhere between 20-40 Lyon games. I'm not an expert, but I think I can speak with more authority than most)

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

I have actually seen LLoris live here in NY---I posted a few times during the game at the end of July which is the curtain raiser for the French season. I looked back at my posts and I was saying that he looked fine, saved a couple of penatlies in the shoot-out and only flapped at one cross. The problem is that it was just one game. Gomes looked fine in the game against the Red Bulls but never had a save to make!

Good enough for me.

If the transfer goes through, and it looks like it will, then Lloris is being bought to be number 1 otherwise I can't the logic of it. Brad is a top bloke and steady as a rock, but he will be replaced either at the start or end of this season more than likely. And being the top bloke he is, he seems to be pragmatic about the whole thing from what I have read. If there is a transition from Brad to Lloris then it will be a short one I would think.

Aside, I think Gomes has an insane amount of talent but the brains of a jellyfish unfortunately.

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

You see, this is why i like reading your brick.....

can someone answer any of this with confidence?

no just say a fleeting fly by statement and let everyone just swallow it , those that refuse to take it without lube or water are stupid and should be ridiculed with no reason. we surely are not worthy of explanation

come on guys. there used to be the best online message board around here

Im with you all the way mate.

I genuinely dont know Lloris well enough to comment on any of those features, so would appreciate those telling me he is the best we can get - why that is. Presumably to speak with such conviction they know what they are talking about...

well then, lets hopefully sign this guy.

should make a difference having a schmeichel-lite goalie between the posts.

Excellent. THANK YOU. Finally someone to put some meat on the bones and give a meaningful response.

If you are right about him I can finally understand what the fuss is about. Again, thanks.

Some random bloke who works at heathrow security just tweeted that moutinho came through.

Proper old school ITK!

Did he have a Whopper in his hand? Burger King that is, I'd rather he had big balls than a big member, this is the Premiership after all.

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

so you dont know that much about him yourself then? just stuff from wiki and other places....thats fair enough. just that you calling him one of the best in the world suggested you knew more.

at this rate this guy could be less that any of us could be expecting or hyping him up to be.....he does play in the french league...the league where joe cole is amazing.

i'd personally wait and see how he adapts before making a rash judgements personally.

WTF? Joe Cole was far from amazing in France, he did alright, 4 goals and 3 assists is far from amazing..

LLoris is a fantastic keeper. Would be the best thing that has happened to the club for a while...

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

Apparently Lloris is £8m + £2m in addons.. wtf, is Levy GHod?

£11,909,000 for a goalkeeper is quite a hefty piece of loose change.

But if he's between the sticks at Spurs for the next five to eight seasons, it would be money well spent, I suppose.
