Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

Alan smith played as a striker for about 15% of his career, such a waste of decent CF talent. Everyone just remembers him as a CM clogger, but he was so much more than that in his Leeds days (even playing RM for them the season they went down) and very early Utd days before Fergie pushed him to DCM. He was a victim of his own work ethic.

He was the victim of an extremely serious broken leg. Never the same player afterwards and a credit to the lad that he even managed to adapt in the way that he did to still play at the top level.

I don't want anything to do with Anderson he is brick, if United hadn't invested so much money in him he would be back playing for a second rate team in Portugal by now

Ian Wright: So if I was Arsene Wenger, I would make an audacious bid for Defoe, whose face doesn’t seem to fit at Spurs and who looks up for a move. Defoe would be the perfect replacement for Robin van Persie, the penalty box predator to finish off all those half-chances which are currently going begging.

Yeah, because he mops up all of those chances that Bale creates for him!

Perfect player to break up teams who park the bus.

Another Moussa vs. United link you say?

no short memory and no lack of respect IMO. Dawson is not good enough for a top 4 team, pretty simple. He was good for us when we were midtable, 8th 7th. But to go higher we need to aim higher. Hence why not 1 single bid has come in for him from any of the top 4 team.

Some serious rose tinted glasses from some spurs fans...

Hmmm who was the defensive mainstay at centre back throughout the only season we qualified for the club?! I think people forget how good Dawson was, and not rose tinted at all imo

Was once 'Englands next striker', now a substitute holding midfielder for MK Dons... wow

Amazing how far his star has fallen. For me was an OK striker with a good work ethic but with a bit of a nasty streak, who then was incorrectly was turned into a midfielder whose only attribute is to kick lumps out of the opposition.

Sorry that should say cl not club, the frackin phone!

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, but 113 pages later no more Modric summer transfer thre

As I recall at Porto he was more of an AM, seen as the next big thing etc.

Utd tried to make him a DM. I think he got lost somewhere in between.

Bit like buying Alan Smith as a striker and making him a DM...

He was bought as an attacking midfielder, the heir apparent for Scholes. I can't remember why he got put in as DM (injuries to others?) but I thought he had a pretty promising first season for United, much better than Nani's. United fans were pretty pleased with him for a while. Since then he has had bad luck with injuries, found himself overlooked for Fergie's son, and generally lost his way.

With the mixture of injuries, years of little football and a nice wages, I wonder if he has the heart to try and resurrect his career. If available cheap he might be a good gamble for someone, but we need someone we can count on now.

For me it's more that we didn't have anyone better than him at the time, but we do now. I could see his flaws back when it wasn't alowed to say anything negative about him.

I can't watch it without being distracted by the atrocious mixing! Bring back the days when it wasn't so accessible so that every Tom, dingdong and Paul van Harry couldn't just get a computer to auto sync for them...

Without any doubt whatsoever !

He's slow, we all know that, not much he can do about that though, he makes the best of what he's got. He, simply put, was a mainstay in a team that got top 4 and also took to CL football perfectly fine.
